The lower # of Macs may be a factor but it is not the primary reason that they have been virus proof till now.
The operating system is open source so there are far more people keeping it secure than MS could ever hire to do the same. Viruses at some point need to execute, the OS does not allow self execution of software without user approval. When you install software on a Mac the user has to interface with it by either authenticating or manually moving the software from the delivery medium to the hard drive. Basically that translates to sitting at the machine to do it. I don't really buy the market share argument anyway. In the 5 years that the current operating system has been around there has not been 1 virus. You can't tell me that in 5 years no-one has tried. Especially since the motivation for hackers and virus programmers is the challenge and the notoriety they derive for pulling this stuff off. Macs represent a far greater challenge and you'd think they'd be motivated by being the first to have done it. Scott
