The Tradgedy of the Dukes of Hazzard

I'm not talking about the movie....

Think about it:

Bo and Luke are cousins
Daisy is a cousin

What tradgedy befell all their parents that they had to come live with poor childless Uncle Jesse?

And when Bo and Luke spent that season on the NASCAR circuit, Coy and Vance (the replacement Dukes) came to live with Uncle Jesse. What happened to their parents???

That's 5 children with no parents in Hazzard county. A cancer cluster? A bus crash on the way to the country music concert? What happened?!?

10 unexplained deaths, 5 related to "Uncle" Jesse. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Back to the Dukes tragedy, virtually all television shows featuring young people in the '60s and '70s featured orphans. My wife and I have turned it into a party game called "dead parents'

A small sampling includes:

Maybery RFD
Family Affair
Petty Coat Junction
Courtship of Eddy's Father
Julia
Partidge Family
Brady Bunch

and it goes on and on...

Great observation. It was also a staple plot element for Disney films -- allegedly because Walt was adopted and somewhat obsessed about it.
