Why? *rant*
I parked our 10 day old Audi out and away in the parking lot of a shopping center as we grabbed a bite to eat.
The car next to it was a newer Lexus and I was on the drivers side of it so I felt safe. I return to the car to find a White full size van parked not just next to me but into the same space. Then to my horror I see it. A big streek of white paint on the side on the Audi where the back side door of the van hit. I stormed back into the restruant and told the manager the vans lights were on. That was actually the truth. I also told the manager that he door dinged me pretty good. Then I went back out and waited. A waitress (nosey) followed the white van owner out and started wiping the side of my car with her table rag declaring that it was just dirt and not white paint. My wife (I love her) told the women to butt out. The waitress tried to argue with her and my wife told her to take a hike. After looking at it again with the owner of the van profusely apologizing I decided it was not so bad. Upon arriving home I took out some wax and it buffed right out. I still do not understand why people have ZERO regard for others. Its my fault I usually park out as far away as possible. This one time I took a gamble and lost. Back to hoofing it. At least its good exercise.

This doesn't work either. Even if I park 50 yards from the closest car, some maroon will park right next to me.

Russ - that is a good idea. If I ever get some spare time I might just do it.
I will hopefully be driving home a pristine 1980SC in 2 weeks. I want to enjoy the car but I am very afraid of idiots in parking lots. If that happens to the SC I will go totally ape*****. I was so pissed with the Audi my adrenaline was pumping hard.

Uhhh, a website really doesn't do much.
#1) Those you want to shame probably don't have much shame in this respect. #2) The majority of the country is still on dial-up, and won't want to waste time looking at pictures of their cars. #3) Chances are 1 in 300 million that I'll ever meet the guy pictured above. Being upset is perfectly justifiable, though if the guy's apologizing, you should kind of give him a break...things did work out in the end. But a website sounds like a really passive-aggressive answer, IMO. |

Man; Just this weekend my far from pristine '80 SC was hit parked on the street behind our Gym. No note, no nothing - nice dent between the driver's side door panel and the rear wheel. SUCKS!
What pisses me off the most is not the damage but the irresponsibility and cowardice to not leave a note. I will be teaching my children differently. I would not have even batted an Eye at the person or even raised my voice as it is only a car ( a damn nice car mind you) and I know there are more important things in life. IF they had owned up to it honestly I would have been very happy with their offer to fix it, instead I'm stuck with it myself. I'm still looking for the culprit (I am stalking that stretch of road I suppose). I think I know who did it but I haven't heard back from the traffic investigator yet.

Buy a roll of magnetic vinyl. Cut some pieces to fit your doors. When you park in a dodgy spot, place the vinyl on the door.

don't get mad get even
I like to get a tiny pebble off of the ground and after unscrewing the valve stem cover on the tire, I place the pebble in the cap and replace it. A slow leak that usually takes 4-5 hours and they can't figure it out. An added bonus, when they take it to be fixed, the tire guy cant find any hole, where upon he replaces the cap after refilling.....

When I got laid off I worked in a rough part of town for a while. Most of the people had really rough cars or had decent cars, but worked hard for them. I think because they worked so hard for their stuff they appreciated their and others property more than the norm. During the year that I worked there my car didn't get a single door ding. I then went back to work in a white collar area and while it wasn't all executives it was mostly people getting paid decently driving nice cars. In the 2 years that I worked there I got a bunch of new door dings. It's the middle class areas where your cars are in the most danger. At least, that's been my experience.
I'm not one for vandalism, but the pebble in the cap sounds like a good nuisance answer. The problem is that it could end up dangerous. A low tire at highway speeds could lead to blowouts, accidents and death in the worst case.

How about placing claymore mines all around your car. You know "This way towards trooops".
...with a sign on top of your car......."Parking next to me could be dangerous to your health" lmao........... |

There is a woman who works in the same building as me who could not park straight if her life depended on it. Every day she was parked at an angle a foot into the next parking spot over. I drive a 12 year old beater truck to work that has a numerous door dings, and I don't care about a few more. So I made it my mission to park next to her, but I always parked dead center in the spot she was a foot into. This generally meant I was inches from her driver side door, and she had to get into her car from the passenger side. It only took a week and a half, and she has parked straight and centered every day for at least 4-5 months.
