ipod nano: who has managed to acquire one?

is it jsut me or does apple purposely release new products in low quantity to generate a techno-gadget-consumer-frenzy?
i'd like to get the 4GB black nano for the wife but no luck.
feedback from actual owners?

I just gave my 40gig monsterous iPod to my girlfriend so I have an excuse to buy a Nano. I use the shuffle 99% of the time, but how can you pass up the sexiness of the nano??

So, I'll have one soon, then report back

I got one last Friday at the Apple store in the mall. I had to settle for white in the 4gb as they where out of black. They had plenty of black 2gb though. It's very cool btw...

I was at an independent store yesterday, and they had quite a few of both colors in stock.

I've heard the sound quality compared to the full size ipod is not quite as good. Can any attest to that?

If you can't find one locally, order directly from Apple -> Lots of inventory, free shipping, and engraving. Last time I ordered one it arrived in about 5 days direct from Shanghai, China (20GB with colour screen - no local stores had it yet)

Regards,
Andrew M

Reeally? How could that be? Was that an issue with the ipod minis?

Interesting.

I got a 4 gig mini last week, Birthday gift. They had the nanos in stock at Best Buy here. The 2 gig nano was 199.00. I guess i don't want to hear any of the others because, I am perfectly satisfied with the sound of the mini.

Just order it on apple.com. Same price, and you get the laser engraving on the back of it.

I was going to get something like "strictly no accordion music" engraved, but I figured it would get old pretty quickly. I just stuck to my initials.

Rumour has it that Apple made more white than black, hence the black ones running out sooner at a given GB. But I'm sure they'll adjust production accordingly.

I'd like a nano for pure cool, but will probably get a U2 instead. I want a black iPod to mount on the black dash.

Well sure. They had to make the electrons 20% smaller to fit!
