no, but I think that if you polled most americans, they'd say the democrats forced her out.

Yeah, that's just called really good spin. See now Bush will throw up a really conservative nominee and the Repubs can talk about how the Dems fought Roberts, pushed out Miers and are now fighting **fill in the blank**. Silly, intolerant Dems. Anyone who has followed the story knows the conservatives pushed her out, but 85% of the country won't know that.

Good point Noah...something to think about is that those the media love to call the "radical right", by the millions, elected Bush in the first place, and he knows it. This "radical right" guy is a bit more than merely mad at him right now. Not for his "war on terrorism", but because he's spending on social programs like a drunken Democrat! Then, there is the "undocumented immigrant" issue....

The public opinion polling on Miers was fairly negative. My recollection is that roughly 1/3 of poll respondents thought she shouldn't be confirmed, 1/3 thought she should, and 1/3 had no opinion. The primary concern of the public appeared to be her lack of prior experience as a judge. Given this, I doubt the majority of the public (at least, that part of the public that's even heard of Miers) is going to be too hot and bothered about who pushed Miers out. They weren't much impressed with her anyway.

Hell, even NPR is reporting that the far right applied the pressure since they had no idea if she'd take a strong stance against the a-word.
