Now This Is A Pretty Gun . . .
Still shopping for a 1911. Ran across this beauty. Not sure how practical a $10K titanium pistol really is - seems you'd want more, not less, weight in a pistol like this - but I thought it was lovely anyway.
Any dream gun pics you want to share? ![]()

Nice looking but give it up and get a Kimber. Good value for the money and you would be very happy with it.

Springfield has the same frame as the Kimber. No difference in the "big" between either gun. If someone wants to waste a lot of money and try to show off to others, then yes, buy something else.

Back in the real world, I'm still leaning toward a Smith & Wesson 1911. About the same price range as the Kimbers and Springfields and I've been hearing really good things about them. I'd really like a STI/SVI but the former is NA in CA and the latter is too pricey (edit: $2,500+). Tabs, I like the Colts but I want a tight, accurate gun out of the box and I've heard too many inconsistent things about the older Colts.
Edit: The third option for a S_I type gun in CA is the new Bar-Sto pistol, looks like an STI Edge and hand-built on a STI-type stainless frame with wide/long dustcover and double-stack polymer grip. Bar-Sto is going to the trouble of getting these CA certified and although the price is not trivial ($2,100) I might go for it if the year-end bonus is sufficient - waiting to see.

As a Kimber Ultra CDP II owner, get a Springfield. Unless of course you can find an older Kimber with the traditional extractor, not the new fangled external one.

What's the problem with the external extractor? Besides that they don't strip down the same as the internal?

Stovepipes. Kimber decided I think to fix something that was not broken. My opinion atleast. I actually have not have thatr many issuses, unfortunately when you spend the $ on a Kimber it should work.
I will say that a 1911 is a labor of love though. If you want something that will just plain shoot everytime, buy a Glock. Bill |

I already have a Glock 19.
A pic of the Bar-Sto, may not be the final finish, I think this was a prototype. ![]()

If you like to tinker, then get a nice cheaper 1911 and modify it. I have seen some sweet 1911's. I just wanted a nice carry gun in .45, and the CDP fit my needs. Thankfully I have not had as bad of a luck as I have read about.

My neighbor (MR Tactical/Martial Arts) who works Security for the DOE...hates the SIGs that they are issued, was a BIG Glock fan...but now only likes the 1911. He bought the Springfield Operator for about $800 and LOVES it...clean crisp trigger pull ....

Gezzus, for $1000 or less you can get a Gold Cup, match grade Colt from my gun smith who specalizes in 1911's.
Or for a $100-200 less, get a "loaded" Springfield, NIB. For the bucks, I think Springfield is it.

Anyone here played with a Para-Ordnance (say, P14-.45?).

titanium can make sense depending on what the gun was made for. A lot of the SVI guns are high capacity game guns built in .355 calibers. These obviously dont do you much good in CA where you can only have the 10rd mags. If you want a 1911, buy a stock mil spec 1911. put 1000rds through it before you start changing parts on it. If you decide you want a bunch of whizbang features later on, trade it for a Kimber. Realiabilty, good sites, and a trigger job are the only 'features' I want on a 1911.

A few friends and I bought the Desert Warrior from a local FFL after a great deal of research. The fact that the other two guys are Marines no doubt influenced our decision!
Great deal that included extra mags. We've each shot over five hundred rounds each without issue. ![]()

My stainless Kimber Ultra Carry II has NEVER jammed or malfunctioned in any way. I am no maintainance nut either. Maybe I'm lucky? I think it's pretty too

Errf. I shot so badly today, I'm not convinced I deserve a new gun. :-(

No shooting today. I spent the morning cleaning and oiling the pack, changing the ammo around to mostly Corbon. I need to find more 25ACP Magsafe's.
