i just saw "The Bad Plus" at the Roxy a few weeks ago. What an amazing group....the drummer, David King, was DISGUSTINGLY good. I had a spot right by the stage and just about everyone around me had their jaws on the floor for the first 10 minutes of the show.......unbelievable playing!!!
few musicians have made my masters in music feel so utterly worthless. if you are a fan of music you have an obligation to check these guys out.The Bad Plus ![]()

I saw Terry Bozio play with Jeff Beck when he opened for Stevie Ray. What a show!
I've seen Dream Theater too. Portnoy is super. How about Charlie Watts? He looks like a bump on a log. But I got to watch the Stones do a soundcheck at Three RIvers Stadium on the Steel Wheel(chair)s tour. Charlie was playing unmic'ed and it was awesome! He killed those skins. I also got to see Neil Peart do this unmic'ed in a soundcheck, though no one can he's underrated.

Charlie is hardly underrated.. but I agree he is one of the best ( less is more)
Also Willie "Big Eyes" Smith. (Muddy Waters drummer.) he's a clock!

Probably someone most of you have never heard of: Rodney Holmes. He's been w/ my favorite guitarist for the past 5 years (Steve Kimock), and was previously with Santana (on the Supernatural album). He might not qualify as underrated since he's on the cover of the December issue of Modern Drummer, but he's just a monster behind the kit!

You guys ever see Dennis Chambers? He's not underrated at all to those who know his music. I've probably seen him 10x and he is simply the best I've ever seen.

Gadd isn't underrated...he's a god in the drum world (the one take Aja legend). Vinnie did play with Zappa among others.
Nobody recognized Zigaboo? He is the drummer for the Meters, one of the most influential (and relatively unknown) bands around. |
