HK P7 Question
I handled two P7 at a gun show. When releasing the squeeze-cocker, both guns made a loud click. Is this normal? It surprised me. I'm thinking the sound could be be misinterpreted as a dud fire, which could be a bad thing.

Like Shuie said, it's normal.

Oh, I just had this image - you encounter a threat, draw and aim your P7, the threat backs off, you mistakenly release the squeeze-cocker, the threat believes you've just attempted to shoot him but dropped the hammer on a dud round or empty chamber, this enrages or emboldens him, he attacks you, and you end up shooting him unnecessarily. Disregard - it does sound like a remote scenario.

I love my P7. It's great at the range or for practical pistol "games" but to be fair, I think the trigger pull is on the light side for an adrenaline charged situation like self defense.

I like them. I think they are nice. Everything HK sells to the civilian market is pretty nice. I just wish they sold more stuff to the civilian market
![]() I wouldn't worry so much about the light single action trigger. Any DA/SA gun, or a 1911 for that matter, has a short and light single action pull. I would worry more about the squeeze mechanism or about clearing a malfunction in a stressful situation if I wasn't used to shooting P7 than I would the light trigger. Practice, practice, practice.... What I don't like about the P7 guns is that I cant spend a lot of time at the range with them. The recoil can be a little stiff for a 9mm since its a blow back design (gas retarded), but its not severe at all. They get too hot to handle very quickly at th range due to the gas tube. I guess if I shot shorter sessions of 50-100 rds on a daily basis instead of a long weekend session when I had time I would get more use out of a P7. My wife loves the P7M8, but she can shoot one 50rd session per year and still be proficient with it. I have to practice a lot ![]() |

Can the models with a heat shield be shot longer than the models without?
