Get ready to turn in your keys Pelicans

Quote from a newswire interview discussing the Panamera coming in '09 with Porsche CEO Wiedeking...

"...(Porsche) buyers are typically middle-aged high-achievers such as entrepeneurs, doctors and artists whose views have been shaped by the 1960s - a group sometimes known in the auto industry as "upper liberals"...

Interesting to hear that the politics of the typical Pelicanite is probably disconnected from that of the typical Porsche enthusiast.

My grin will be a tiny bit wider the next time I drive my car.

Not 'Porsche enthusiast', but new or certified used Porsche buyer.

I had a candid chat with a sales guy at a local dealership about the 'typical buyer'. They sell a lot of cars to folks that will never track them. Thus the wet sump bloated 911. They sell a few to those that will track them... thus the GT3.

The common buyers are the ones that make Porcha profitable. The 'enthusiast' buyers help keep up the image.

Ever notice that very few enthusiasts own new Porsches, or have owned theirs since new? They don't make their money off of us.

And why will your grin be wider? You and your '87 are down here in the muck with the rest of us red-neck, Jack-swillin' 'bacco chompin "lower conservatives" headin' out the door to go to the Wal Mart store. ...Unless you're planning to buy a new Panamera?

Seriously, though, how many 997 owners do you see here? There's a big difference between the demographic that buys buys 10-20 year old Porsches and works on them (us) and the "upper liberals" who buy the cars for us so that we can snap them up after they have paid for the depreciation.

One of my freind's bought his 944 brand new and picked it up at the factory, he still has it. Defianate Porsche Enthusiast. If he ever gets another Porsche, it will be a brand new 911 Turbo.

There's a few, but they're in the minority. Like the Rennlister that died a short time back in his Carrera GT when a Ferrari pulled out in front of him at a track day, Ben I believe his name was. No disrespect meant by bringing him up, but he was one of the few people that not only could afford to purchase new, but was a true enthusiast, and drove his cars as they were meant to be driven.

What percentage of new Porsche owners that spend $10k for the PCCB brakes actually use them? My guess is very few.

The latest model year I have owned is my current car, a 1989 Carrera.

The newest P car I have owned was my first, a 1986 944, which I bought in 1992.

Five Porsches all together, none newer than 7 years old when purchased, all bought from private parties.
