I hesitate to introduce reason to such a passionate tilt, but here goes;

Our constitution does not allow government to suppress political free speech, but private citizens may heckle and argue at their pleasure. The problem is that a university, if it receives any federal funds, is an agent of government and must not encourage or allow suppression of free speech. The university has a constitutional burden to treat all invited speakers in the same way. In other words, if the university allows hecklers to disrupt a presentation by Anne Coulter, they would not be allowed to remove hecklers from a similar speech by Michael Moore.

The sad thing is that a university is supposed to be a bastion for the open exchange of ideas. The left claims they are attempting to silence "hate speech", but they remained silent when Malcolm X openly called for racially directed violence. I have no problem with Malcolm X types speaking at universities, but surely our republic can withstand the divisive forces of Anne Coulter. Are the students really that afraid of ideas?

Again, I do not believe that any rational persons definition of free speech includes the suppression of anothers free speech.

Ahhh U finaly made a good point...one that I frequently use...looking back in history.

I however will say that we are at one of those times when Political and Social differences are paticularily divisive. The direction that the nation will choose is up in the air...50% to 50%..the last time this happened with such venom was the CW.

And to silence this "Hate Speech" I will shout you down, I will stomp on you.......all goon squad tactics ......that Hitler used in the 1930s.

Because from what I've read, Hitler wouldn't allow dissent...it would be the hecklers who were destroyed if it was a speaker who promoted his goal, and dissenting speakers weren't even allowed to speak.

And I think this is a reaction to an action...just like Moore. I'm assuming you feel the same way about Moore's heckling experience....please state clearly.

Now as to the RIGHT to disagree with a speaker...yes you have the right to BOO....you also have the right to get up and walk out or not attend.

U also have the right to have all your buds attend and shout down a speaker...but that is what Hitler did...purposfully interject his goons so that a speaker could not speak could not exercise their Civil Rights...and this is the paralell I am drawing....and has nothing to do with trivializing the Holocost...
