"Armed and Dangerous" Loose in my area

Hi Guys, Typing this with my buddy Mr. Browning on my desk. Locked and loaded. Home alarm system on, as usual. As you know, I live in a rural area, widly scattered houses. Yesterday, a female's body was found in a park a dozen miles from here. I suppose cops finally ID'd the victim...
A suspect, armed & dangerous, abandoned his car about a mile from my home, took off on foot. Cops still looking. Damn, I hope they catch him soon. Things I wanted to do today. Oh, the weather is mid 40's temps, raining like a cow peeing on a flat rock.
If he's not dressed for it, or in shelter, hypothermia will set in soon enough.
So, I guess if you think that moving to a smaller town, a rural area, is the way to avoid crime? Better think again.

I think you know what to do if he comes calling. Wish you had more freedom to get things done, but just enjoy not being in this rain. It's happening here too. Big drops. The kind that gets everything soaking wet. Everything.

Just make sure you invite him in out of the rain before introducing him to Mr. Browning.

PWD doesn't need Mr Browning...he can bore him to death with his posts on these Boards. The reason they don't use PWD as a means of execution is that he is considered to be cruel and unusal punishment.

Hot lead for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Maybe even a snack if the bad guys is hungry. Be safe, David

Hopefully the piece of $hit will die of hypothermia and the coyotes will get him. That'll be cool when a piece of him shows up in your front yard or in a pile of coyote crap.

Be carefull, especially if you go wandering around outside with a gun. Even on your own property. Neither the cops nor their dogs know you from the guy they are looking for.

If some one knocks on the door claiming to be a cop, verify that before opening. Look outside and see if there is a police car visible. If not, ask for a name, badge number, and department. Call 911 and verify with the dispatcher before opening the door. The suspect is cold and wet, and may be trapped in the area by police activity. They will sometimes take advantage of residents knowing a manhunt is on, and expecting cops to be around. Pretend to be one, gain entry, get warm and dry, and pick up a hostage or two.

Solid advice. Sometimes it is hard to put yourself in the shoes of a desperate, sociopath criminal.

Update: No word on whether he's captured or not, but if not, I'd like to think he's far out of the area. Or dead in a ditch somewhere. Hard for this dude to "play cop"...he's "native american", 6'1", 160 pounds, has all the prison tattoos, including an indian head dress on his neck, a teardrop tattoo, corner of left eye, etc. Can't be very bright either. Noticed where the cops pulled his car out of the muddy field. Tracks suggest that he thought the highway widening for the turn off onto my road was part of the main highway. Looks like he drove that widened stretch at a high rate of speed, straight across the side road, over a 4' drop off into a plowed & muddy field.

Lock and load!

I already have a loaded revolver in my desk, and a loaded 9mm in my nightstand... But I think I'd load up a couple 30 rounders for the AR15 and be ready to employ it.

Once or twice in areas I've lived in, we've had an 'armed and dangerous' on the loose. The police were quick to apprehend, thankfully.

piece, as in gun, not hippie peace

you should hang some warm clothes and food on a line out back and wait for him to show. when he does just graze him a bit so the piece officers can follow the blood trail.

Like I usually say...

No peice, no peace. Know peice, know peace.

And a gun is like a fire extinguisher. It's better to have one and not need it, than need it and not have one.

Yesterday in SA,
3 baddies rob the bank, chase was long , but handled well, covered 2 counties, they finally lost it (rolled the truck) rounds where fired while in persuit // after the roll , they came out firing.
bad boys dressed in bullet proof jackets.
with all the gun fire, many rounds, ONE found it's mark ..
he has 1 eye left // arrest ended well.
1 officer hurt /windshield was shattered .
BUT, these Officers need to go a range, and practice some .
it's a battle I know...but let's hit something.

More reminders of why I would like to purchase a handgun. My wife has suggested it, so it's probably in the cards for the near future.

Matt, you should! It's like a fire extinguisher.

Find a decent 9mm that you and your wife are comfortable shooting (try CZ pistols, very good and cost less than most other nice pistols). 9mm is cheap to practice with, and doesn't recoil harshly. There is also very good defensive ammunition in 9mm nowadays.

Get plenty of practice, and if you can, find a class to take from a qualified instructor.

Cindy just called the Sheriff's office. They are very polite to people living in the area. Urging us to not approach, call 911 instantly if we spot him. Okay by me. I wouldn't shoot unless he was trying to break in or threatening Cindy or I. He still hasn't been seen. I guess all is speculation, but maybe I should slap a 20 round magazine in the mini 14, load up the shotgun with 00...For some reason, I'm not that worried though. If he spent the night out in last night's weather without a rain suit? He's dead.

Ever noticed that they always seem to survive, regardless of the conditions? They're like bacteria, in more ways than just that. I'd keep the piece handy.

I'd probably go with something like a 9mm, of course I would seek the qualified advice of the militant arm of Pelican OT before I make any purchase. Just something easy, reliable, and affordable to shoot. My inlaws have 40 acres, great for target practice. A gun with an owner than can't shoot it is worthless. I've held off because I was raised by an anti-gun father, he's a Nam vet and very anti-violence, so I can't blame him. But, like a fire extinguisher......... Plus I have the normal worries about my son when he's older, I don't want it too easy to get to, but hiding it away unloaded is worthless too. But I have seen lockboxes with fingerprint recognition, quick and easy to get into, but only for people that should.
