Last Act of Defiance

Anyone remember the old poster of the little rodent about to get nabbed by the hawk? The little rodent is flipping him off in his "last act of defiance". Well, this little feller must be related...

http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/06/01/09/100wir_a2mouse001.cfm

FORT SUMNER, N.M. - A mouse got its revenge against a homeowner who tried to dispose of it in a pile of burning leaves. The blazing creature ran back to the man's house and set it on fire.

Luciano Mares, 81, of Fort Sumner said he caught the mouse inside his house and wanted to get rid of it.

"I had some leaves burning outside, so I threw it in the fire, and the mouse was on fire and ran back at the house," Mares said from a motel room Saturday.

Village Fire Chief Juan Chavez said the burning mouse ran to just beneath a window, and the flames spread up from there and throughout the house.

No was hurt inside, but the home and everything in it was destroyed.

"I've seen numerous house fires," village Fire Department Capt. Jim Lyssy said, "but nothing as unique as this one."

David and Goliath.

Jeff, I just posted about the End Times stuff on anther thread, but I have to say here how much I like the D&G story. Little David is absolutely mortified that the Jews are cowtowing to these Philistines and allowign them to badmouth their God. Unable to understand the cowardice, he anxiously seeks permission to march out there and kick Goliath's butt. Eventually, he is allowed. He marches out there amid laughter and dispatches Goliath. Just like that.

Yup; David was Da Man. Imagine what he could have done with an army of flaming mice. Early weapons of mice destruction.

What sick bastard would put a live mouse in a burning pile of leaves?

You're kidding, right? I would think it's the best way to dispose of the disease-infested little buggers.

Call me compassionate but in my mind it's right up there with pulling the wings off "disease-infested" flies.
If you need to destroy an animal you don't torture the poor thing to death (unless you're a sociopath or a cruel young boy I mean).

That is the "ring of fire", not to be confused with the 'smoke ring" sometimes seen on a well cooked brisquet.

To dispose of captured varmints, I used to use a trash can full of water, drop the cage in and voila. Now, I use the same trash can, but rigged a hose to the lid, and gas them with vehicle exhaust, seems more humane to me

a member here on pelican, cbeers actually has found a way to breed claw less gerbils. apparently the claw less feature of the creature makes for less "chaffing" if you hear him tell it. don't know for sure as i don't dabble in vermin.

i hear he is currently trying to genetically engineer a claw less gerbil with a tail about twice the size as a normal hamster tail. something about retrieval of lodged critters??

Reminds me of the time one of the little varmits found it's way into my garbage can in the garage. The kids were there and I felt obliged to let this one go. I turned it loose in the snow in the front yard and the kids were extatic. The little feller ran for all he had accross the front yard and into the street, only to be flattened by a passing car.

I remember hearing about the baby seal saved by the left coast animal rights people who let the local high school rehab. the thing and set it free. Big event, band playing, balloons, speeches by officialc, white doves, etc. All cheered as the seal swam out into the sea...then Orca reared his lovely head and with one gulp, baby seal is gone! Band went silent, everybody slumped over, walked to their cars and drove away. Hilarious!
