Just got back from seeing it ..... It was not bad and had some nice cars too. Overall "good" if you don't see it in the theater it should be a Definate rental.

I dunno, but I'm guessing the ones concerned about how this movie will "encourage the youth," are the same ones who though their parents were complete geeks for being concerned when American Graffiti came out.
. . .or how about Gumball Rally, or. . .

Same movie shiet, different day.

Funny...I just turned on the local TV evening news. The reporters are talking to the police getting their slant on the movie, which starts here today. Well kiddies, the cops are freaking out!
They are predicting a summer of carnage!
I'm predicting a summer of Radar Traps!

You know what's funny is that the guys with rice racers in SCCA are a lot more subdued than their flashy brethren. They don't run huge wings or silly taillights for the most part - it's all big ass wheels, beefed up suspensions, and motor mods. Kinda like a certain German make of car that runs alongside them.

Ronin is one of my favourite movies; that Audi S8 is so cool, and the chase scenes are actually fairly realistic unlike most hollywood car based drivel.

I love to turn up the volume on my amp and watch that scene, hear that Audi 4.2 V8 roar!

Went to the theater last night. All showings of "The Fast and the Furious" were sold out. As I imagined, cars were rolling up in front and revving their engines to show off the resonance of their sport exhausts. Funny thing is, most of them were Mustangs.

My wife and I ended up seeing Moulan Rouge. No cars in it, but pretty entertaining, nonetheless.

You've got to realize my wife is the woman that puts up with me sitting up in bed watching the Formula One reruns at 2am while she's trying to sleep so she can get up 4 hours later for work.

I figure I owe her a date night chick flick now and then...

:-)

Chick flick, yes... but, Nicole Kidman, for goodness sake.

I'll admit that I'm probably going to see it this week. From what friends have told me, it's not an Oscar contender or anything, but it's entertaining if you're into cars. And I liked Vin Deisel in Pitch Black.

A bunch of people in my local PCA chapter were planning to meet at a specific theater in the Chicago area on opening night. I should've checked it out then.

I'm sorry, but I just don't 'get' drag racing?.
Maybe it's an american hot rod/dragstrip type thing that Europeaners are just not brought up with!.
Surely the only skill is how well you can 'slip' or 'drop' the clutch and how swift you can change the gears!.
The other skill is how much money you can pour into gizmos and engine rebuilds!.
It's kinda similar to Nascar and oval track racing- limited!.
Racing around corners (not just left!) braking changing up and down gears, chosing the best line thru multiple bends must involve more skill and a feeling of accomplishment?.
Or maybe i'm just a 'wingeing pomme' or maybe I'm just getting old!.
Why don't these guys prove their coolness and skill on the track or auto x.
Last auto x I was at some kids turned up in a Nissan skyline (right hand drive) which I thought was sure to enter!.
But no, the guys just stood around trying to look cool and criticised the other entrees!.
We have all been guilty of driving over the limit on occaision but I feel that this 'Cult' or 'Fad' will claim a few kids lives and possible innocent bystanders before another craze takes over!
(Bring back the hoola hoop! )
Rant over!

Just saw it last night. Not great, but one of the better car movies of late. Some character made mention that one of the cars was worth $80k. WTF?! And what kind of resale do these kids get?

I saw the movie last night. I have to say, I enjoyed it. Don't go into the movie expecting to see something with a lot of plot though. I love car movies, and this movie had a lot of chase scenes and some awesome stunts. The black Dodge charger was a welcome sight in a movie chock full of rice rockets with fart exhausts(some of them nice though). There was a Ferrari that got wasted by the modded Supra...pretty neat. More believable than the race between the Civic and the Carerra in Gone in 60 Seconds. I have liked Vin Diesel since he made an appearance in Pitch Black. The movie had a few stupid scenes, but I didn't mind it too bad. Would I recommend it? Not to most of the intellectuals on this board, but I would to anyone under 20 years old. Just my $7 cost of admission opinion...

Basically, the movie was Point Break for drag racers instead of surfers. I was a little blown away by the price of the cars as well. I mean, I thought the idea of souping up a Honda was you couldn't afford something faster out of the box. These guys were blowing 20 grand on a Honda or Integra and another 10 grand on upgrades to get a "10 second car". Not only is that a monster of a 914-6 or a decent late-80s Carrera, but you could build a hell of a drag racer for half that using old Camaros, Mustangs, and Chargers. The chief benefit of import cars is the improved handling over those old cars, but their main activity was straight-line quarter miles - the one thing Detroit rolling iron is actually good at!
