It was amazingly bad considering the budget. I can suspend belief (aliens in the first place) but the other stuff is just lazy writing.
I'll bet the entire dialog of this movie would fit on four pages, just awful. "Try changing the solenoid" good grief ![]()

The movie delivered for me. The loud horn the tripods sounded before attacking was freaky scary. I could have done without the big blood suction thingy that came right out of Stormship Troopers.
Most movies today can be picked to pieces if you try hard enough and action movies rely more on special effects than standard character development. I can't stand TC but grudgingly admit that he has made some enjoyable flicks... |

Mars Attacks! A classic indeed.
"I'll be calling you, oo oo oo, oo oo oo." They just don't write em like that anymore. ![]()

My wife and I just saw it last night. Considering the type of movie it was, we enjoyed it. I don't think this movie was ever intended as anything more than a couple of hours of horror movie.
We took it for what it was. |

I could see how in the theater or a nice home system the special effects might wow past the fac that the movies sucked so bad. I think I have had that experience before. But, again, when watched on the small screen in full screen mode (my wife picked this up remember) you have to rely on the plot somewhat to hold it together. ![]() Suspending disbelief does not mean suspending all common sense...what happened to all the people on the plane? No bodies? Why didn't it completely burn down the house? If there's a fire outside coming in, why hide in the basement room with the GAS PIPES!!! I think I completely wroite it off when that scene with the eye was EXACTLY LIKE Minority Report. Ug. There were a couple of scense I found troubling in a post 9/11 world, but the rest was so laughable. Did anyone see "Dawn of the Dead"? I think that's the name of the movie. I never saw it but thinking of the trailer I saw in the theater still sends chills up my spine. Those people trying to escape the burning neighborhood, troubled me to a deep level. Whew. Please tell me that movie was as good as the promo.

The original story was considered a parable about British colonialism.
I don't mind it when trash movies are made out of trash source material. But WotW was a great book & concept and deserved far better than this mass of plot holes and inconsistencies. What was good was the 'ground level,' personalized view of the action. What was bad: just about everything else.

Try this movie for fun. ![]() They learned as they went along, so don't judge it by the beggining alone.

Yah the movie basically sucked. My 13 year old daughter and I enjoyed finding the many holes in the movie. Some we came up with:
If they planted those machines before man, how did they know he was even going to come? You would think with all their technology, they would find a better way to kill all the fleeing humans except one by one like a bug zapper. The scariest part of the movie was actually thinking of what was going in Tom Cruise's mind! This is how Scientology was suppose to of started sort of, right? Alright, enough with the deep thinkin, let get to some crushin and things blowen up real good! (Any SCTV fans?) |

Well, those aliens appeared to have had poor economic advisors.
The expense of transporting huge killing machines to another planet and burying them... to leave them for tens of thousands of years... only to be used to kill the dominant species (and provide snacks for the machine operators)... where's the economic sense in that? (Was it meant to be a reminder of al Quaeda cells living in the US?) The original concept of the machines landing with the invaders inside didn't need changing or embellishment. I mean, if you're going to change a classic story, couldn't you maybe have a reason?

And with your impentetrable shields, why bother with hiding them anyway? Why not just drop the *****es from the sky or land for that matter? It's not like we could stop them.
