Connecting TIVO with ethernet.

Basically what it says. We dont have a land line in the house, which is asks for, but says you can use an adapter and ethernet. Well I have the adapter I got from best buy (same make and model as on TIVO's website) and the ethernet and the stupid box wont recondize it or what not. Just wanted to see if you smart guys ran into this.

I recall that when I set up my Series 2 TiVo, the initial setup had to be done with a land line. Only then could you set it to connect via Ethernet (wireless in my case). This was some time ago, maybe they have fixed it. Try www.tivocommunity.com for info. I'd read about people without land lines having to take the TiVo to a friend's for the initial setup, which takes some time.

Wayne is correct but one very important thing is that the TIVO boxes being shipped out recently had the older version 5 of the OS. You need to have it hooked up to a phone line, call TIVO and tell them to upgrade it over the phone line to version7 of the OS then it will support the wifi system.

Really is nice to copy programs to the laptop, then take them on the road to watch when stuck in a hotel with poor television... Also, with your doing this the hard drive in the TIVO stays empty and no need for a larger hard drive or second TIVO unit.

Yep thanks guys, thats why I said nevermind. I bought the exact adapter that they sold on their webiste, but from best buy. The problem is only the old version of the adapter works (as they explain on their webiste, that i just missed reading) and not the new one you can buy in stores. So i just ordered one and I should be able to get it ready to rock.

Matt,

Make sure you have the updated version of the software on the box. Without it you cannot do anything wifi.
