You mean like a double cab pickup? I think Thom's your man on this one.

I'm guessing he means the old Rabbit/Golf MK1 pickup. I think they're pretty bulletproof.

Kasien you are correct sir. I went and took a look at it last night. Really good shape w/ a 16v motor swap. Only problem is that it doesnt have working A/C so I am going figure out how much it is to fix it. If its under a grand I'll pic it up.
Yeah, I don't think Thom loves me anymore. ![]() |

I have owned 4, and still have one. My last one had over 400K when I traded it off and was still running strong.

I've owned both, converted one Desiel to gas, but the ones that are really, really bullet proof and last forever are Desiel.

ok, are we europeans here?> it is a freekin' rabbit pick up, stop talking like a guy you aren't, my god that pisses me off! there are no mk 1, mk2 or mk 3 cars here, they are A1 A2 or A3 cars..the posers are just killing me. Our cars aren't even made in the same factories! Rabbit pickups were made in PA for god sake! So the correct answer is NO, NO ONE HERE HAS HAD A CADDY!!but we did have a rabbit pickup

I knew a guy with a fully restored 81 caddy...full shine racing (rabbit Gti-intended) suspension, 16v rocco brakes, 2.0 16v bottom end with 1.8 16v head, schrick cams, 4k gti tranny with lower 5th gear, cap, recaros from an 89 GLI, gti wheels etc...what a cool truck. He played in a band with me and hauled around his equipment with it. It pulled sub 7 second 0-60 !!!

that is a raw nerver for me, I worked for one of the larger VW mail order places for a long time and people like that just always pissed me off. It's like calling every 2 door car a GLI or GTI..or better the infamous a3 1.8 model(us spec no less) that was never made but I have endured speaking to 500 people who swear they have one...

nice....my beef was that I sold world wide and people would call and order stuff, then get wrong stuff. "it's the same thing" no not hardly. it's like 924 guys trying to buy audi 100 ls parts(they only sold like 5 100ls' in the usa) the boot and Bonnet reference is nice, but do you you know your offside from your near side? or you wings from your cards?

Here are a couple pics of US Spec VW Rabbit Pickups (is that politically correct enough for NICKG?):

i had an 82 sport truck that I bought from a guy that became paralized shortly after purchaseing it...it was awesome...too bad the guy i sold it to boogered the thing out...it only had 12k miles on when i sold it to him. I saw it a few years ago, it was trashed, they did a round light cabby job on it...horribly. I told the guy I was the second owner and that it only had 12k on it when i sold it(in 1994! it was freeking mint), they guy said, I thought the speedo was broke, it said 13 when i got it...

Cool!
That conversion works really well and those parts are relatively inexpensive and available. If the fuel distributer/air box setup on the 16v conversion is on the drivers side it's a good thing as it was done with scirocco parts (they all fit nicely). To use the the Golf/Jetta parts would require the fuel and airbox to be on the passenger side which always required creative hacking of that corner or the car. If your going to install the A/C it will also be scirocco 16v parts your looking for. Im jealous. I always wanted a 16v rabbit pickup
