They do look like well made rifles...but $1300 msrp? For an AK?!?!?!

You could have a darn nice AR-15 for that kind of money.

Of course, the mere fact that I and other freedom-loving citizens own such weapons, in-and-of-itself helps to limit the actions of the power-hungry politicians. They know they can only violate our individual rights "so far" before they run the risk of "pi$$ing-off" enough people that there is a revolt. This "fear" by politicians is easy to see; those who follow a general anti-liberty agenda are usually working trying to disarm the population!
When they can broadcast to the world on CNN a He11 Fire Missle going up your a$$ I don't think an AK in the hands of the populace means very much.

OHHHH Hard just thinking about those Aresnal AKs makes me hard.....the trigger pull is a thing of beauty...

My neighbor owns 2Milled Aresnal AKs as well as a Colt Law Enforcement AR Carbine.

He also just bought a Supressed HK USP 9MM.

Let me just say those Aresnal AKs are Well WORTH the mooola..They transcend the usual thinking about AKs being cheaply made...Think Galil.

Yes, if the government wants the wholesale extermination of its population then small arms in the hands of individual citizens is not going to be very effective against the weapons of mass destruction in the government's arsenal. But to make the suggestion that those who seek political power want to exterminate the population, is to not understand the "normal" motivations of "power hungry" people -- most want to control the citizens, not exterminate them.

The only way any unpopular government can maintain its control over a population is by keeping a "police" force in day-to-day interaction with that population they are seeking to control. If the population under attack is armed -- even with just small arms -- the government "police" force is going to have an extremely difficult time maintaining control.

Finally, a subject dear to my heart - sharing space with the cars.
In this case, he is talking about the Avtomat Kalashnikova.

If you just want a cheap AK looking shooter, then get a cheap Chinese copy - like the MAK-90 that has a stamped receiver. If you want a quality AK variant - get one with a milled receiver. They are sturdier and better made weapons. Go with an original milled AK-47 (pre-ban) if you want a historical collectible or get the Arsenal if you don't need "historical".

And if you just like the 7.62x39 rounds and want to get a 'really' cheap shooter, then buy an SKS. I'm not a real fan of the AK-74 variants, as I do not see the ammo readily available locally or as cheap when I do find it.

Keep in mind that if you buy one of these weapons in their import-friendly form, and then want to convert it back to it's "proper" design, you are regulated by 18 U.S.C. sec. 922(r) & 27 CFR sec. 178.39. These laws regulate the modifications allowed.

I had an AK. Then I sold it and bought a heavy-barrel AR-15 (an XM15E2S) I was displeased with it and sold it a month later. Then I bought another AK variant - a MAK90. It was cheap to buy and is fun to shoot.

EDIT: Found THIS regarding modifications.

Cashflyer is right. The MAK 90 is the closest cheap thing out there. You can find them for around $300 and the old Soviet or Chinese surplus ammo is dirt cheap. They are fun guns.

If you want a Russian-made, semi-auto AK-47, they are a bit more expensive. They have much higher-quality wood stocks. There are plenty of Romanian, Chinese, Yugoslav and even Egyptian versions out there for less money and lower quality wood. If you just want a shooter, but a cheapo. There are plenty of aftermarket stocks you can put on them. If you buy a cheap Chinese SKS, get 50 rd. clips and put on a folding stock, it's basically the same gun as a semi-auto AK-47. You can get all that for under $300. There's a guy on SIGforum now selling parts to build these and it's even cheaper.

Around here, it'd be tough to shoot one of those since most indoor ranges won't allow rifles. But the NRA range, right by my house, does allow them, so I see a lot of them there. I shoot there about once a week and don't think I've been there once when there weren't at least two M4's, AR's or AK's at any given time.

BTW, these types of guns are used in less than 1% of all gun-related crimes. A cop literally has a better chance of being attacked by an escaped animal from the local zoo than coming across one of these. The so-called "Assault Weapons Ban" only banned some guns based on they way they look, not how they fire. Last time I checked, no one in had been killed by a bayonet, folding stock or flasg suppressor, which this law banned.

Shoot, for a lot of money... you can pick up an AK clone for $2-400, then get a Red Star Arms trigger for it, and have a decent shooting AK. Still won't be real accurate, but not many AKs are.

Yep.

The recently expired Assault Weapons Ban (AWB) only affected certain features of semiautomatic rifles. Specifically, a rifle could only have TWO of the following features to be legal:

Detachable magazine
Pistol grip
Collapsing/folding buttstock
Flash suppressor
Bayonet lug

So AR15s and AK clones kept selling, sans the buttstock, flash suppressor and bayonet lug. The information I've found stated about 1,000,000 of these types of limited feature rifles were sold during the duration of the ban.

That's ONE MILLION.

In spite of that, studies by the CDC and DOJ found that the AWB had no measureable affect in either direction (decreasing or increasing crime with 'assault rifles').

Further yet, gun grabbers like Fienstien and Schumer, etc, still want to enact another ban. We have independant GOVERNMENT agencies flat out saying the AWB didn't do anything, yet they think it's a good thing. We don't need laws that don't do anything..

Anyway... go out and buy an AK... take it 'off the streets' so the gun grabbers will be happy! hehehe

I wonder how all those post-ban guns are selling now that the old style ones are legal again. Probably discontinued. Maybe the bayonet makers are having a boom now too!

Rick & Fray...
Although the AWB has expired, they still have some limits on how much you can legally change / refit on the "assault" weapons. Review the relevant sections I mentioned above if it is of any concern.

Some of my stuff went from legal, to illegal, and back. It was stupid.

Well, I'll just buy the whole package when it comes time for me to buy an M4 or MAK 90. I don't wanna bother doing the conversion stuff, as it always ends up costing more than buying the whole gun anyway (the way I do things). The nice thing about the expiration of the AWB for me is that hi-cap. magazines are available now and cheap. Two of my SIG's can take 12 round mags and I enjoy doing that much less reloading when at the range now.

Thanks for that honest answer. The media fuels the fear factor. They know that if we are scared we will watch TV. That translates in ratings, that translates into more money for them. Trust me boys they know this and are gonna scare us any chance they get so we watch. Stop watching ...they are NOT going to invade Indiana....sorry Tabs.
