ipod question

Got a 60G ipod for Xmas from the wife.

A friend has offered to "fill" it with approx 15,000 songs - something that would take me forever.

My question is: How do I update my itunes once I get the ipod back from my friend. Will itunes try to update my ipod with only the tunes I currently have on my computer or will it mirror what is on the ipod? I don't want to lose all those tunes when I plug back into my home computer.

TIA.

"60GB. Wow...."

No kidding. Once full I'll never buy another album again. It really is a marvel. I'll bet if you showed the average guy this thing 10 years ago he'd have thought you were from outer space.

I think the easiest solution is to have your friend load the songs on your ipod using it as a hard disk. This way you can then take all the AAC or MP3 files and store them in a folder on your computer's hard drive.

On second thought, the way you proposed may also work. I think I've tried it this way with success. I'm not 100% sure but a little test of say one or two songs should give you an answer. Once you sync make sure that an actual song file was added to your computer from you ipod.

Doesn't the IPOD work as a removable device? I have songs on I-Tunes then when I plug in the Ipod it shows up as a different folder. I then can drag and drop in and out of that file to change my IPOD selections.

I bought my computer from a friend. He said i will fill it with music before I send it to you. It has over 17,000 songs on it. I didnt know there were that many songs.

No the itunes may even delete all the songs in the ipod if "manual update" is not selected.

Go here
for hte free software to transfer songs from the ipod to the computer. I used it and it works great. Apple will not provide the software due to potential copywrite infringing.

I filled up my 4G mini in less than a week, lol. It sure is nice nt having to find records or CDs.

Look for a utility you can download online. There's plenty that will allow you to do this

my collection (47Gb) doesn't fit on my 40Gb iPod
what you need to do is use the iPod as a removable drive (enable this in iTunes BEFORE you give it to your friend) and get him to copy his collection onto the drive as a folder (not via iTunes).
then take it home and copy the collection onto your hard drive. then delete the files from the iPod and disconnect it.
Then go into itunes and import the collection into your existing collection. (set it so it copies the file too, not just adding it to the database - my be the default).
then delete the copy of the files from your hard disk and reconnect your ipod to syncronise the files to it and your done.

My roommate had to use this type of software after our external HD failed. Worked great for loading iTunes from his iPod.
