Bad Week

I got the call I've been dreading for a while last Thursday. My dad passed away Thursday, February 2nd. I was down in Nashville all last week making arrangements and cleaning out his apartment. I still have to go back soon and clean out his storage space. (A much bigger task as he went from a 3500 sq. ft. house to a 400 sq. ft. apartment before he died.) I'm not looking forward to it. That, and I'm executor of his estate.

Sorry for your loss, Legion. My dad passed two years ago next week.
My mentor told me "You are a man, now." I didn't know what he meant until a few weeks later. It's something almost every guy has to go through on the road of life and I can say it changed me in some ways.

Legion, I am very sorry for your loss. My sympathies go out to you and your family. Going through his stuff will most definitely bring back some memories you shared with him that will cherish for a life time. Simply tossing a baseball back and forth, working on a car, flying a kite, etc.

We are with you bud, David

What can one say. Condolences. The pain and mourning is something I cannot understand. All I can say is this, be thankful you had him. You were blessed that your father stepped up and actually was a father to you. I never knew one.

My prayers with you brother.

My thoughts are with you. My father passed 2 years ago this March.

Keep the good thoughts and remember the things he tried to teach you.

Legion,
My condolences.
My dad passed away just over 8 years ago. I admit I took him for granted until I moved away from home, but then realized what he meant to me and visited as often as I could. From time to time, I think of him and feel such warmth and love, I feel he is still with us. Other times, I miss him so much it hurts.
You will get through it one day at a time, like the rest of us.
Take care.
Les

I'm sorry to hear about your loss as well. My Dad passed about 3 years ago. For some reason it has hit me especially hard this week and I don't know why.

A couple of months ago, my Mom moved to a 55+ community about 4 blocks away so she comes over often. We had to help her clean out 20 years of stuff from her old house...stuff of hers, my Dad's, mine and my brothers. There's something sad about putting stuff out on the curb that has been around so long. Old gifts, toys, whatever, sold for pennies or picked over by the yard sale crews, ultimately to be chucked or donated to charity. This should have been done by my folks long ago.

Those are the kinds of jobs that make your feel really old...and like a man.

It sucks.

Sorry to hear that he is gone so early. I lost one of my best friends a few years ago, he was 48 and left a 37 year old wife and 4 year old daughter. It can happen at any time and I am 53 now.

Lost my Father 14 years ago, one year after Mom passed. Its really hard, and in our case brought the family together when we had to clean out the house and stuff. Find something that you shared together, hopefully a tool or the like. Keep it and everytime you use it, think of him. I have his jewelers screwdrivers that he used to tighten up his glasses and everything small. Still brings a smile to my face when I use it and think of him.

It gets easier, but takes time. For many years I would think of something and start to pick up the phone and call. Slowly it ceases but you never forget them nor what they meant and did for you.

He was diabetic for close to 20 years and did not take care of himself. He had had his left leg amputated. He had sleep apneia. He had heart problems, and if I understand it correctly, one side of his heart pumped much less than the other, leading to an excess fluid buildup in his body. He was in dialysis to remove to excess fluid four days a week, but his weight could fluctuate by 100 lbs. within a month. This was also causing his kidneys to fail. He had a bad cold. From what his doctor and the police told me, it looked like he got up that morning and was getting dressed. He apparently decided to take a nap before putting on his shirt and never woke up. His friend found him when he stopped by to pick him up for dialysis. I'm just glad he didn't die in the hospital. He would have hated that.
