Question Help from the gun crowd please, how to sell a gun in Calif.

Sorry to interrupt the political/religious/racial debates but perhaps some of you gun folks can help me out. It is all about trading two guns I don't use for something I would.

I have a very nice 9mm pistol that I will keep forever however...

I have a cheap little 9mm with two 15 round clips that I would like to get ride of and possibly replace with an .357 revolver.

I also have a 12ga Ithica pump shotgun, like new, never been fired, about twenty years old, it's a bird gun, hold four 2 3/4" shells with a long vent rib barrel. I would like to replace it with either a eight round home defense shotgun with a short barrel or a cheap over and under for skeet.

I suppose the easiest thing would be to take them to a gun store and see if they would let me trade them in?

Thanks,
Scott

Your best bet in Kommiefornia would probably be to consign it at a gun store. Let them worry about the legalities of selling it, and your butt will be covered.

You cannot sell or transfer the 15 round clips. To do so is a felony. They are gold in your hands and handcuffs in anyone elses.

You have t ogo through a FFL to do a private party transfer. So either advertise on a gun related forum or sell them on consignment. Either way the purchase / sale must be made through a FFL.

Sell vis...Gun Forum...Guns America, Gun List etc, Consignment at local GS, Sell to GS....

If you sell yourself to another person in CA then to stay legal you must have an FFL do a Private Party Transfer...however if you sell outa state you need an FFL License from that person to ship to that state/person(The gun has to go to the Licensee to comply with all local laws). It is not illegal for a PP to ship to a FFL...Fedex doe it for me all the time. Handguns go OverNight Priority...unless it is shipped as Gun Parts..the gun disassembled is good enough, grips off, mag out... then it goes Fed Ex Ground. Long guns go Ground...by UPS or Fed Ex. Post Office wants both partys to be licensed, UPS wants both partys toi be licensed on Handguns, Fedex only wants the money.

You can also list them on SIGforum.com or Glocktalk.com. Just for kicks, what kind of "cheap" 9mm is this? I recently sold an Ithaca Model 37 12 gauge with two barrels for $375.

Yes, magazines not clips... I think it is a Jennings or something like that.

The Ithica is a model 37 with changeable barrels.

You won't likely get much for a Jennings. They're reputed to be cheap crap. Personally, if I had a Jennings, Lorcin or other cheap POS pistol, I'd take it completely apart and bury the peices separately in wet dirt and let them rust to crap, then toss them in the bay.

No no no. The next time there is a gun 'buy back' take that sucker in and trade it for some gift certificate. You'll get more that way.

I'm in an area that doesn't do gun buybacks, so it didn't cross my mind.

Yeah, wait until there's a gun buyback that gives out something good, then turn in the gun for something worth more than the gun itself.

What a plan!
