Right now I am a bit worn out. Once the weather warms up it will be better. Usually I am the first or second one in. Right now I am just tired. I need a vacation. Vegas here I come!

Like it most of the time. Some days get really, really boring, but otherwise OK, some but not too much travel

JoeA,
When I mentioned that my current job is the second best I have ever had... it's because flying was THE best. I really miss it, but I'm in a happy place right now.

Cash,
What are you doing now? I have been thinking of slowing down a bit and even thought about going into computer/IS/IT in case I ever lost my medical. Joe

I love my job even though it's rotating shifts & I work 2 out of every 3 weekends. I get paid really well for the amount of education I have. My job is the hardest to learn, but easiest to perform in the department. I have internet access & can watch all the cable channels after business hours.
They currently can't find anyone that is willing to even take the training for the job, so we have a real strong position in the union bargaining right now. We're asking for another 3% on top of COLA, & it seems management might give it to attract people & cut down on our overtime. I could see them possible replacing me with a computer in 10 years, then I'd have to take a 13% pay cut & bid down to a backhoe operator position, which wouldn't be too bad, those guys have air conditioned cabs with stereos.

Color me postal.
Look up "no win situation" in the dictionary, you will see a picture of my job. Turn-over at this position has averaged 14 months over the past 10 years. I've been here 18 months so monster.com is my home page ![]() The only reason i have left yet is dumb pride and ego. For some reason i thought I could turn the entire company around, now I have accepted the fact that it can't be done. I have another job (much better) lined up and will be changing very soon, but some times these things drag out longer than they should. |

Love it, and have for 36 years, as it has transformed a bit... but I've never wanted to do anything else.
On the best days, I walk into a conferece room, share my opinions & observations and go home and make out an invoice. On the worst days, I give good business plans and/or marketing plans to people who haven't the staff or funding to follow through on them. For those, I require 50% prepayment with the balance in 20 days.

I do not like what I do but it makes me a lot of money so I am a slave to it. I have burned out dealign with clients and my employees know it and try to take the slack off of me. The liability and stress that goes with it is sometimes overwhelming and booz has been looking better and better lately. I gave up drinking 4 times last week alone!!
I try to offset the BS with as much family time as possible and track days where feesable. I am looking foward to 2 days in Homestead in 2 weeks. (I need to order my tires ASAP!!) If I could break into something else I would but I am worried about starting over. I wish I could figure out what that other thing I want to do is. I have been searching for a good nich to jump into and start a second business and phase out my current one. I might try to get a GC license I have really been enjoying working on our little construction projects lately. I saw this video today and thought of this thread. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6330278913814994&q=angry+man

I love owning a company, but the money sucks and the stress is high. If I had more stabilty I would be in heaven.

I voted 'It's a living', but my job is really not to bad. Pretty much an IT hired gun.
Nice offices on the 27th floor of a prime building in Seattle, panoramic views of the Cascades and Mt. Rainer. But our relationship with Microsoft means we we have to be on the absolute bleeding edge, so we are constantly learning new technologies, a solid half of which will flop and no one will use. We get to be the poor bastards who stand up and tell the world why they should by products that are crap right out of the box. The flipside is that we get to see GREAT new technologys before anyone one else. ......Origami anyone?

Pelican O.T. : How do you feel about your job?
craigster59: Not too bad, I play saxaphone in a Burlesque Show and when I'm not busy, I help the Girls get ready to go on stage. Pelican O.T. : So what's the pay? craigster59: $500.00 a week. Pelican O.T. : That's not much. craigster59 : Well, that's all I can afford! That's how I feel about my job, and apologies to Woody Allen for stealing his line.

It work. I keep the internet running, if you have a problem connecting to something don't call me, it's probably your fault.
sort of... I do networking work using Cisco equipment providing voice and data via satellite primarily to offshore oil industry stuff and KBR. Before that I worked on the Cisco TAC. Both interesting jobs that required constantly learning new stuff. That's the part that I like best. If I do the same thing over and over again I get really bored. Networking keeps that from happening too much. I still wouldn't mind being retired and independently wealthy, then I'd travel and be a scholar and student.

I really enjoy what I am doing and I am getting paid a lot of money for doing it.
With a friend we started a hedge fund 3 years ago and things have gone really well. The good things are that there are no hours (if mkt is quiet I can just go home), no working at the weekends etc. The flipside is that it is difficult to take a lot of time (1-2weeks) off as the mkts move continuously. The other thing is the continuous pressure to make $$$. And everyday we have a statement of how much money we made/lost for the fund (and for ourselves). Now (as the fund has grown dramatically in the last 12 months) there are days when I make/lose $100-150k. Sometimes I have a streak... Luckily it is more often a positive streak than a neg one... But the pressure is there. Also another strange thing is that we do not get the fees until the end of the year (if we make money for the investors), which means that you need to live without a salary for 12 months and then u get a lump sum (if we have been good). So job security is zip (investors can pull money every month), but everytday is different as everyday there is a new trade to do. It is a bit like gambling and I get a rush of excitment every time we make $$$ on a trade. |
