911 = 993

I guess this is what I'm trying to figure out, and I really need expert input on this is.

I recently picked up a very clean, low mileage steel slant nose (aftermarket) 1988 Carerra.

How realistic is it for me to assume that I could sell this car and come CLOSE financially to picking up a quality 95 993?

Thanks, in advance.

Not very realistic. If you remove the word "quality" from the 993 description you might be able to get within 5k ... maybe.

Well, if you really wanted a 993, why did you buy the 88 Carrera in the first place?

Oh, the cat in the picture.............not a rude comment afterall.

You have a nice car, I'm guessing that's not a RUF or factory original/ original nose on the car.

If it were a RUF or original equipment, I'd say it's a different game than a aftermarket modified car - even a nice one like yours.

If you want a 993 in as nice as shape as the car you have, you are going to have to scrape up some cash $10,000+?

Why? Well I've always loved Porsche & I've owned several in the past. I was not looking to buy this car. I didn't go shopping for one. It was one of those phone calls where it was simply offered to me.

I've now just started getting back in the groove with trying to understand all the different models, and the 993 really appeals to me. It strikes me as a car that will significantly appreciate in value as the years go on. Plus..I like the way it looks.

I love the car that I have, but if a 993 came along that was in the right $$$ range, I would sell the Carrera and buy the 993.

Not so sure the 993 will significantly appreciate in value as you expect. At least, not any more than your 3.2 Carrera Targa would. If anything, I think 993 prices are still on the downward trend, while Carrera prices are holding steady. But hey, I have no crystal ball. I guess the questions are: for how much could you sell the Carrera? And how much would a quality 993 run you? I have no idea on the condition of your car, but what's a realistic ballpark price for your car? Somewhere in the low-20's? Maybe mid-20's if it's in really cherry condition. What's a good 993 go for, $30-40K? Obviously the '95 vintage 993 will be on the lower end of that price spectrum. You could find a 993 for as low as the mid-20's, though, if you'd accept something a little rough around the edges. YMMV.

That car is worthless. I suggest selling it to me for $500 to take it off your hands and being embarassed at P-car get togethers. . .

OK, it was worth a shot. . .

Nice ride!

Notice that said ******* is travelling away from the car. Probably didn't notice it was a Targa until the very last second

If you had Thom cut the targa bar off for you and install a cab top, you could prolly get $25K for it after investing $4K.

Like it is, well, I'm sure someone in the world would want a targa slantnose with chrome wheels, Miami Vice strakes and all.

best bet is to throw it up (no pun intended) on eBay with a high reserve and see what happens.

Thanks Noah, That does put it into perspective. I think that you were right "Significantly" might be a stretch.

But I thought 993's as they were the last of the air-cooled the value would appreciate, and they do seem to have a timeless look without looking dated.

76,000 miles .........only driven to the nightclub to do coke.

I'm not a fan of the slant nose but that cab looks real nice for 12K.
