I think you pour the Guiness over the back of a spoon to set it up properly.

The Black and Tans can be a pretty sensitive subject. I'll never order one in an Irish bar on St. Patrick's Day. Kinda like ordering a Kamikazi at the VFW on Dec. 7th.

I suppose you guys wouldn't approve of a "car bomb" either...

Car bomb = pint of Guinness + shot of Bailie's + a float of Tilamore dew + do it all in one shot.

I know it disgusting...

I actually showed a bartender in Raffles how to make a Black and Tan. He thought it was very cool.

How low can Raffles have sunk when they don't make a decent Singaport Sling and they don't know how to make a Black and Tan?

Only time anything Irish should be combined with anything english is when a lad from the ol sod sticks his willy into a cockny tart! (backdoor so he doesn't have to see her teeth)

Otherwise - DON'T MESS WITH MY GUINESS BY POURING SOME ENGLISH SWILL INTO IT!

I was just reading about Guinness earlier today.
I read that in Ireland they just pour the two together so they mix. The layered thing is a showy American invention.

It doesn't really matter, but harp and guinness is often called half and half since they are both made by guinness and bass and guinness is often called black and tan, but the terms can be interchangeable. Actually they only have to use a stout. It doesn't have to be guinness, but that's just crazy.

I'm more of an "Extra Stout" guy myself. Apparently there are 19 different varieties of guinness. Some are regional. There's even something that's basically a guinness float. Yep, got ice cream in it. I bought some vanilla tonight. Tomorrow I'm going to give it a shot.

As stated above, Guinness and Harp, is called a Half and Half, and a Guinness and Bass is a Black and Tan, a Snakebite is Guinness and Cider.

Trust me I know ALOT about Guinness. My wife was a district rep for them for 9 years.

It's nice to have the teaspoon with a bend in the handle so that it sits on the rim of the glass as you pour the Guiness.

Red,

If you are talking about Raffles Bar/Hotel in Singapore, then can understand a bit. Was there last year and its not the same as it was in years past. Guess we are getting older and the bartenders are getting younger...
