unofficial "best concert dvd" thread

I happened to watch Diana Krall, Live in Paris last night and was amazed at the quality of the sound and image (especially if you like jazz). So it got me wondering what other concert dvd's are worth checking out...

Wild Blue Angel at the Isle of Wight, Jimi's last recorded performance. Some songs are just average Jimi (there are some technical problems and he is obviously pissed off), but some songs are just the absolute pinnacle of modern music. You can put his Woodstock show right beside it, maybe the Fillmore shows too.. and and and..

I like the Spinal Tap stuff too..

The Dead have quite a few shows out on DVD and most are very nice. I especially like Downhill from Here as it was my first Dead show - Alpine '89

Someone gave me Springsteen's "Born to Run" box set for Christmas, and it comes with a video of a real early show in London that you should watch if you love the Boss. Just average sound and video quality, but a cool vintage piece.

I don't have a lot of music DVDs, but I do love the Rush R30 DVD. The "R30 Overture" at the beginning is amazing. I'm going to go watch it...

Interesting because the DVD was rated very highly in a HiFi magazine I get. I am not an enormous Bruce fan but I like most of his stuff and was going to get the DVD.

Re: The Last Waltz... if you could wear a DVD out mine would be.

Another favorite is The Who at royal Albert hall (IIRC) it was recorded in the late 1990's so the sound quality is EXCELLENT and it has true 5.1 surround. My only complaint is that the bass doesn't come through as much as I like (said the bass player) but I understand when mixing audio someone has to take a back seat. It also has the three original band member plus Ringo Star's son on drums and he come as close to Keith Moon as anyone I have seen. They play most of their classic tunes also and some other stars come on stage for cameos.

Now how much would you pay... no wait there's more!

if any of you are or have ever been They Might Be Giants fans then you must pick up "GIGANTIC: A tale of two johns" which is a documenty which covers the entire careers of our favorite johns.
i went to an art school to view it for the first time after it was first released (limited showing).
it was released on dvd this past year.
it is by far one of the best eclectic showings of what this band is about.....or not about, from front to back.
they are wierd, people either love or hate them, lot's of live performances mixed with commentary from fans, industry people, and nutjobs.

Agreed, Probably one of my most watched DVDs,

"Chicago and Earth Wind and Fire, live at the Greek Theater"

"Led Zep. Song Remains the same."

"Michael Mcdonald, A Gathering of Friends."

Vash, I see you like Paz Vega and the Coors lead singer. Must be the dark hair! And you are right, she is very hot and a great singer. Something about all Irish singers that I like Sinead, Dolores O'Riordan, Dido, Coors, Enya (well, maybe not her).

For variety I would say the Clapton "Crossroads concert" and all of the guitar slingers there.

For sheer "fun", I'd say Frank Zappa's "Does Humor belong in Music?", especially their version of the Allman's "Whipping Post"

"Kicking Television" - Wilco, live in Chicago
Caught them on Austin City Limits (I don't watch more than 1hr of TV/week so I felt really lucky to have seen this) and it was a really cool performance.

TMBG is great. I did enjoy "Gigantic" but didnt' burn to own it.

Best concert film, imho, is "Stop Making Sense."
