Thumbs up For those of you wanting to quit smoking

You need to get a perscription for Zyban.

Me and two of my co-workers decided to give up the nasty habit. We all went and got a two month supply of Zyban and a bag of suckers.

6 months later and not a one of us have even had a thought about lighting up.

There are also two other guys I work with who quit smoking on zyban a year ago.

I just started popping a pill twice a day and kept smoking as I pleased. Then within two weeks I found I was smoking less, less, and less, until I realized I didn't even want one.

And as you smoke less and less, the damn things start tasting worse and worse, and more offensive with every day.

I can't stand going to bars anymore because of the smell.

So, if you want to quit (you do have to want it) but other stuff hasn't worked, I recommend the little purple pill to anyone and everyone. Additionally, none of us (3) felt any side effects from the pill. It didn't alter my mood at all. In fact, I could have been taking a placebo for all I know.

I am trying to get my brother to kick the habit and am pitching the little pill to him too.

The little pill that saved Leland's life:

My gawd yes...I'm very glad to hear you quit those nasty little things. Now a good stogie? That's different. sort of

I quit about 7 years ago.

Let me help anyone trying to quit.

Right now in Virginia, there is an executive for Phillip Morris. He's driving along in his new Carrera GT thinking, "Thank god [Your Name Here] decided to murder himself to day. The more that stupid SOB smokes, the quicker I get my new yacht."

I quit because I got pissed about those SOBs killing me.

It is repackaged Wellbutrin. It is an anti-depressant...Other than making cigs taste like crap, I think it is simply feeding your mind a drug that mimicks the nicotine rush, thereby quenching the craving...(just shooting from the hip on this one)

BTW...Iraq was justified, Serbia was not

(just thought I would get that in for the heck of it)

Wellbutrin is an anti-depressant that your insurance will pay for. They generally do not pay for zyban. In my case I took wellbutrin for three months. Quit smoking now right at 6 months. The stuff works. I had smoked for 37 plus years. Be prepared for the weight gain. You are so much better off to quit in so many ways. Tell your Doc what your trying to do and go with the Wellbutrin. Take 150 mg for three days then go to the 300 mg. Keep smoking for about a week after you start. Pick a day about a week later and stop. My Doc wanted me to take them for about 8 months. I quit taking them after 3. If you want to quit it helps like you won't believe. If you have a stress event you might start back but if still on the Wellbutrin they will taste like crap. Most people think they have to have one after, sex, eating, while drinking, etc., you get past that to the point of thinking " now is when I used to smoke". Don't get me wrong, if they ever tell me I have the Big C, my next stop will be to buy a pack. Good luck.

I wonder if it would work well to quit Copenhagen. I used Copenhagen to quit cigarettes a few years ago, now I'd like to give up the snoose.

Zyban = Wellbutrin

I didn't know that. thx

Wellbutrin can be a wonderful drug if your system can deal with it. Most can. I can't.

wellbutrin worked great for depression for me for years..until ptsd struck me down from aviation, then i found it waaaay too stimulating. i take something for depression now at night called remeron..alittle groggy during the day, but beats constantly wanting to jump off of the roof and try to land on my head. well..have a nice day, everyone.

I tried Zyban for a while. It did make me not want to smoke, however, it also made me gain 20lbs, and also made my skin itch like crazy. I mean BAD. It got so bad, I had rubbed off the skin on the top of my feet. Calamine lotion did not help. It's good I guess, but there are side effects. It um, also makes you last much longer in bed, positive side effect, i guess...

feeling slightly on a buzz , not quite like amphetamines , but slightly resembling that , probably more like early stage acid coming up , without the auditory or visual perception distorting

I'm probably in the minority with my opinion but you can quit smoking if you WANT to without any outside assistance. I'm a firm believer that your brain and willpower can overcome almost anything if you really want to within reason. I am 48 years old and I smoked from about 16 to 23. There were times I thought about quiting but it was half hearted and the results proved it as I kept smoking. I probably tried to quit 5-6 times with the same results. Then my wife became pregnant with our first son and at that time I REALLY decided that for my sons future, mine and my wifes it was time. Now let me tell you when I decided to really quit I was in a high stress job and smoking almost 3 packs of cigs a day!!! I went cold turkey and have not had 1 cigarette in 25 years. Was it easy? No. Was it worth the pain, anguish, panic etc.? Hell yes. I realize everyones situation is different but sometimes just sucking it up and being responsible will get the job done.

that's great, but i have a weak character, i'm lazy that way and after a few days the cravings take the upper hand

if this little pill can help , then it's worth trying

today was fine, i wasn't supposed to quite today , it's supposed to take a couple of days for it to take effect

nevertheless, most of the day , i didn't smoke, the few ciggies i lit, didn't reward me and i put em out after a few pufs ... the pill gave me a slight buzz, but nothing uncomfortable, wasn't agitated either, pretty normal and happy , except i hardly smoked...

in the evening , it wore off

i'll keep the normal dose of 150mg a day as the normal procedure says so and then move to 2 times in 5 or so days when i actually quit and from todays experience, it seems that the 2 per day should cover the day well enough to come to a complete stop of smoking , with hardly any discomfort or withdrawel symtoms...

I too quit cold turkey once I decided I really wanted to stop. Two packs a day for.. . cough cough.. 30 years. It's been 4 years now and I don't miss it one bit. My wife never smoked, so that really helped not having a smoker in the house.

I thought I read that Zyban started life as an anti-depressant and the smoking cessation part was discovered by chance.

LMAO... I thought the same thing...

The first time I quit for 2 years on Zyban. Second time arouind I found it too stimulating and stopped taking it. I quit using nicotine gum. I find it better than the patch, 'cause it gives you that nicotine rush you crave. I still chew them occasionally, but not close to as often as I smoked...

i was in amazement all day the first day , saying to co-workers "this is too good to be true" followed by "if only it could stay working like it does now".

bummer.
