Concealed carry law passed. I'm not sure why everybody makes such a big deal of this, since Nebraska was one of the only three or four states left that don't have concealed carry provisions. It's not going to turn into the Wild West overnight, as everybody seems to fear, and all of the criminals who currently carry guns will keep carrying them, and all of the upcoming criminals who want to carry guns are definitely not going to go through classroom training and background checks to get their permit - they're just going to carry the guns.

I for one am glad that it passed.

slakjaw 03-30-2006 12:09 PM

I am sure we should all feel, you know, "safer" now right.

Well, I do not.

pbs911 03-30-2006 12:15 PM

You have the same rights as before. Simply don't carry.

You didn't lose a thing. Before the only one who exercise their Constitutional right to carry and be on the same footing as your criminals.

Why? Because LAW ABIDING CITIZENS will be able to jump through hoops that usually include STATE, LOCAL and FEDERAL background checks, submission of PHOTOGRAPHS and FINGERPRINTS, in order to excercize a CONSTITUTIONALLY PROTECTED RIGHT?

It's not the law abiding citizens you should worry about. It's the criminals. I'll never understand why people are so afraid of other people JUST LIKE THEM.

I count this as a win for freedom, and a win for Nebraska. Welcome to the club!

Not sure what problem you have with this but so far that I know of not one person with a CCW permit has ever been involved in a crime with a weapon. On the other hand many have been involved with saving innocent people because of their ability to carry a weapon legally.

That means that if some nut comes into a place (like happened in Texas at Luby's) and starts shooting everyone in the place, that there might just be someone to save your life, and the lives of the other innocent people.

If this is not going to work for you then buy a house with a basement and find a job where you can stay there, hunkered down.

This is a big win, where people with a background check can carry legally. Hope you realize this someday.

RickM 03-30-2006 12:18 PM

But how easy is it to get?

Here in NJ you need approval from 1: Superintendent of The New Jersey State Police and 2: a superior court judge...IOW, very unlikely you'll get one.

"As of 12-30-03 there are a little over 3000 permits issued in a state of 8 million people. Most are held by retired law enforcement officers."

That depends on your point of view.

Yes, we lost.

IMO the pro-ccw people here are the minority.

CONSTITUTIONALLY PROTECTED RIGHT?

CCW is not the constitution.

Your view and you are one of very few holding it.

The rest of Nebraska won.

Sorry but you are in the minority.

I really liked my chances before.

I can go out everyday and really not have to think about some nut job blasting up the starbucks. I too Hope you realize this someday.

Well, just relax and know with confidence that:

All the stuff the naysayers wailed about - shootouts in the streets, blood flowing over minor traffic incidents, neighbors slaughtering eachother over disagreements.... never happen

They sing the same tune in EVERY state before CCW passes... and it never materializes. They might as well go around yelling 'The sky is falling! The sky is falling!'

I do not think so, not on this issue.

Elections are coming and I hope to get rid of some of these guys.

Every state I have lived in the last 10 years has had a CCW law and I have been safer.

The nuts do not get a CCW. READ MY POST! Not one person with a CCW in the whole frigging country has ever broken the law. In over 10 years with the program, NOT ONE PERSON has ever done anything illegal.

What part of this do you not get? We all hope that you will realize this and very, very soon.

Rick Lee 03-30-2006 12:26 PM

CCW isn't in the Const.? What part of "the right to keep AND BEAR ARMS shall NOT be infringed" don't you understand?

Show me one CCW holder who has committed a crime because he had a CCW. Show me ONE. We have well over 100k CCW holders in VA and not one has had a permit revoked because of illegal activity while carrying concealed. Once in a while some fool will forget they're carrying when they go through a metal detector. That's the worst thing that's happened. I'll take that any day over watching some nut mow people down while everyone waits, totally helpless, until the police come to clean up the mess AFTER the fact.

Joe, I can say with a high degree of certainty that this is not accurate.

I view it as a win also....but, again, what hoops have to be jumped through?

I was never worried about that. I just wanna know who is packing. That way when I goto the movies or whatever, I can get away from that person. And why shouldnt I?? I do not know that person, I do not know if the safety is on. I do not know if they are actually safe with weapons. I do not know how close they are to that point of snaping.

I go to the shooting range and I see these punks there being totally unsafe. Now I have to see that out in puiblic too???

People I know, my friends, I trust them with weapons. Now I am supposed to just trust people I do not know. Trust that they know WTF they are doing with a pistol. That is asking a lot.

Joe, it really works both ways. People who should live in a bunker and the other peoiple who feel they need a pistol to feel safe in public.
