Whats that?

pbs911 03-30-2006 02:51 PM

If a person is justified in drawing and discharging their firearm if they are placed in fear of their life by a person threatening serious bodily injury with a knife at a distance of 23 feet away.

It's not a hard and fast rule, but it is a defense that has resulted in numerous acquitals.

The rule is based upon the fact a person with a knife can travel a distant of 23 feet before a person can draw and discharge their firearm.

Concealed weapons in Nebraska?

Is that what happens when your Bush/Cheney sticker covers up part of your gun rack?

sammyg2 03-30-2006 03:07 PM

You are messed up. You are afraid of a nut shooting up a starbucks because he has a concealed weapons permit?
I got a clue for you, nuts don't need permits.

The permit means nothing to anyone, except a responsible law-abiding citizen.

Unfortunately this thread is also funny but in a sad way.

Hope that you realize and soon that you are safer with the passing of this law.

Well, I do not.

You now have access to a freedom restored, you should be rejoicing. Any increase of freedom is a positive.

Disclaimer, not arguing, not inciting, not anything, just a simple question....take it as face value because that's all it is.

When, as a law abiding citizen, I would have been arrested for carrying a concealed firearm.

Most states, before adopting CCW, had laws that forbade carrying of concealed, or even open, firearms.

If I'm not otherwise breaking the law, I should be able to carry a firearm wherever I go.

red-beard 03-30-2006 03:39 PM

Cool, I expect you have met people carrying firearms, but you never knew, because when you carry concealed, you don't talk about it.

Joe,

I have a right to my opinion. Laugh it up if you want to. Its not changeing anything. In fact I remember you saying that you will not get a CCW permit for some specific reason. If you support it so much then STFU and go get yours.

Its stupid.

And no, I do not feel safer now that some punk ass can pack heat under his shirt.

What if some "tough guy" picks a fight with some other dude. The guy goes to punch out the tough guy. tuff guy then shoots the SOB and calls it self defence.

Why can't such a simple idea be pounded into the skulls of some people?

Do not know either but if you look at Slak's post above, you can see for sure that he still does not get it.

Why is it so hard for you to *get*

If you are packing heat

I do not want to be near your dumb ass.

I do not give a **** if you are sane or not.

Got a gun? stay the **** away from me.

Why do you need a gun to feel safe? Are you really that ****ing paranoid?

Bad guys are out to get you.

The boogie man is in your ****ing closet.

Excuse me! You are the one who is being paranoid! Look in the frigging mirror and tell us about the "tough guy" you are afraid of. The rest of us are not at all afraid, its you...

You have had people sitting within 10 feet of you, carrying a guy and not known it. Now you are going to be worried about everyone, looking around for lumps in clothing and so on.

Jeez dude, grow a backbone and stop worrying about it. The people who get a CCW are not going to start a fight with you, its the criminals you need to worry about!

slakjaw 03-30-2006 04:04 PM

Next time I go pheasant hunting I am so gonna hide my shotgun in my coat dude.

Then when the birds flush I am gonna quick draw and blast them.

****ing Pheasants takeing over man. I felt threatened and ****.

If I am at the store and I see a gun under some dudes coat I can just blast away right. I mean I do not know what his intentions are, he may be a threat. So in that case I can just empty a clip on him right??

I'm not sure if you really comprehend the qualifications for CCW. No 'punk ass' is just going to be able to get a license. It's not like getting a driver's license (which practically comes in Cracker Jack boxes). Each state has slightly differing processes, but they usually involve state, local and federal level background checks, submission of fingerprints and photographs, as well as a completion of an approved training course, usually entailing the state's laws on use of deadly force, and a proficiency test.

And if some 'tough guy' starts a fight, then caps someone, he has to PROVE it was self defense.... and engaging someone else in physical confrontation NEGATES the self defense aspect. In my state, you have to show that you feared for your life, or feared great bodily injury, and tried to, or could not, flee from the situation. The only time such requirements are waived is in one's home.

At least in Texas, ANY and EVERY shooting by a CHL holder goes before a GRAND JURY. The jury decides if it was a justified shooting or not. If not, the shooter faces the full repercussions.

Also, someone with a CCW is responsible for EVERY ROUND he or she fires. Criminally and civilly.

You do have a right to not like it. You do have a right to your opinion, but in light of the overwhelming evidence, though you might not be able to say CCW is a GREAT thing, you simply cannot say it's a bad thing.

Once again, I just have an observation, indicating that I do not fully understand the importance from a practical point of view. I do understand the theory of Bill of Rights protection.

So here is my quandry:

If it is legal for individuals to carry a concealed weapon, isn't this a possible (to some at least) case of maintaining peace by fear because no one knows who is packing and who is not? Not that this is a bad idea....

THAT is why they say 'an armed society is a polite society'.

Interviewed criminals say they feared armed victims more than they feared the police. In areas of high gun ownership, a criminal has to make a gamble when he/she decides to committ a crime: Will my victim be armed or not?

I've been around people I knew were armed, and probably around people that were not. I am not afraid. Heck, I'd hope there would be an armed citizen around if something bad were ever happening to me, and I was not carrying.

Then all you have to do is hope the armed citizen knows which one is the bad guy. Hope he she has decent aim. Hope he she wont shoot both of you.
