Tom DeLay - Surrounded by Felons

With DeLay's Deputy Chief of Staff pleading guilty yesterday to corruption charges, the body count of Delay staffers and associates headed for prison continues to grow. Rudy's plea deal portends more indictments to come.

Has there ever been a sleazier office on Capitol Hill?

From our friend Josh Marshall at Talking Points Memo:

A lot of people talk about Rep. Tom DeLay (R-TX) being crooked or unethical. But considering the veritable lion's den of corruption, self-dealing and criminal conduct his office turns out to have been, I think the truth may turn out to be that he was something more like a paragon of virtue. It's just hard to figure out how else he could have worked day in and day out with so many of his key staffers and lieutenants being confessed felons without DeLay ever having gone over to the dark side, as his lawyers suggest.

As DeLay's lawyer Richard Cullen told a conference call of reporters today, "Tom DeLay was [not] aware of the wrongs that Mr. Rudy was committing. As long as people are telling the truth, Mr. DeLay has no fear about this investigation."

So run down the list.

Key DeLay-wired lobbyist Jack Abramoff -- convicted felon.

Michael Scanlon, former DeLay aide and spokesman -- convicted felon.

Tony Rudy, former DeLay deputy chief of staff -- convicted felon.

Ed Buckham, former DeLay Chief of Staff and pastor -- implicated in Rudy's plea, up front costs for lobby shop funded by Abramoff clients, helped funnel Russian oil-KGB money to DeLay, Inc.

Spokesman, Deputy Chief of Staff, Chief of Staff. A few aides here and a few aides there, and pretty soon you've got a whole org chart.

When you put it all in perspective and stop seeing through the distorted prism of the liberal media, you start to understand DeLay was a veritable Gandhi-with-the-virgins or the one good man in Sodom when it came to ethics.

One a bug exterminator, always a bug exterminator

Joeaksa 04-01-2006 10:13 AM

Yea, the Clintons just killed everyone they did not like. Delay makes them squirm a while beforehand...

Rodeo 04-01-2006 11:08 AM

Not sure I understand. Are you defending DeLay? Making a joke? Changing the subject?

Are the Bush Repubs still behind this sleazeball? I'm curious.

lendaddy 04-01-2006 11:17 AM

DeLay rocks, I met him a year ago. Should I send him your love next time I visit his Congressional office Rodeo? I'm hard pressed to think of anyone who's kicked more Dem ass in the last couple decades.

Mulhollanddose 04-01-2006 11:43 AM

What exactly did Delay do that was so egregious? It is not as if he squanderd public teasury by obstructing the judicial process, in a sexual harassment lawsuit, because it was a better option than facing criminal indictment for campaign finance violations and treason...thank Satan that the media and Janet Reno were his whores or else maybe we could have imprisoned a real scumbag.

lendaddy 04-01-2006 11:47 AM

He kicked a lot of Dem ass, that was his crime.

fintstone 04-01-2006 11:57 AM

So what exactly is Delay supposed to have done? All this innuendo and character defamation is tedious...not to mention dishonest. Just the typical liberal tactic of repeating half-truths and mis-characterizations until their low IQ minions believe them.

cool_chick 04-01-2006 12:12 PM

Perhaps Fint, perhaps.....

But you know how the old saying goes....you are the company you keep.......

speeder 04-01-2006 12:16 PM

I have fantasies of DeLay getting his tray slapped to the ground in chow line in the joint, and having to put on an apron and clean it up. Then crying on uncle Dick's shoulder in his cell that night.

One can dream.

Lets not forget one of Clinton's chief apologists, Robert "Rolex" Torricelli, who silently stepped out of his Senate seat for receiving kickbacks in the form of grandfather clocks and Rolex watches...Gee, I wonder why that got the memory-hole treatment by the media?...Could it be because he was a Democrat?....nahhhhhhhhh!

The "liberal tactic" of pointing out that Tom DeLay's Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, Spokesperson and favorite lobbyist either made or accepted bribes?

That's quite a tactic.

If you defend a politician that has sold his office to the highest bidder, you are as bad as he.

How good is any person who spends about 99% of their waking hours trying to figure out new ways to show how bad Bush and the conservatives are compare to your side of the fence?

How about instead spending the time trying to make your party and the country better. The hours you guys spend on "Bush is at fault for ever mistake in the world" crap would be a lot better spent trying to do something productive.

You are not going to change most of our minds with this drivel but at least doing this you would be doing something productive...

Moneyguy1 04-01-2006 04:58 PM

ANother thread slam dunks a minority congresswoman for a slap, even advocationg a lynching. Where is the fairness in judgement? Is someone automatically evil simply because their political party, religion or basic philosophy differs from your own? Perhaps a little realization that we are all humans with faults would do us some good.

Stop w/ the fair and balanced stuff, Bob. They don't like that. ;)

And Joe, Rodeo only has about 6000 posts to go before he's spent as many waking hours as you on this board. "Pot? This is Kettle calling"...

Shuie 04-01-2006 05:19 PM

I thought they were all criminals.

Does anyone have the email that was sent around with all of the Domestic abuse/DWI/drug/solicitation/fraud charges that our current senators and congressmen have accumulated? I tried to Google it so i could post the text here but I cant find it anywhere.

Moneyguy1 04-01-2006 05:26 PM

Nah, Denis

I'm "fairly unbalanced" to ever think I or anything I say would make a dent, so I just have fun!!

I was obviously trying to get a rise, which I did successfully...This does not excuse the Democrat hate-mongering that rips at racial harmony...On the contrary...It is people like Cynthia McKinney and the Democrat party at large that make a business out of subjugating the black people and fomenting hate.

This must be stopped, dead...That is the point.

So, in other words, you really cannot come up with a single thing to pin Delay....so the smear will just have to do?

Clearly a powerful congresswoman attempting to take advantage of her office to assault a simple policeman attempting to do his job....and then trying to ruin his career/life by claiming you did so because of his racism....is not something you would dismiss as a simple human fault?

Moneyguy1 04-01-2006 05:44 PM

If anything must be stopped dead, it is the internicine sniping from both ends. It is about time for the extremes to recognize that the majority do not march in lockstep with ANY single philosophy. IN fact, I would guess that no two people really think exactly alike. THere is an interesting book coming out later this year which I have had the opportunity to preview. The Author is Father Andrew Greeley, who not only wqrites an excellent novel, but works as a statistical analyst for The University of Arizona and The University of Chicago. It discusses over 40 years of data about conservatives and whether they act as a bloc when it comes to voting or opinions on such matters as marriage and abortion. Look for it.

Both major parties play the race card...one by claiming to be the champions of the poor and the other putting tokens in high places, and saying "See how open minded we are?" Neither approach is becoming. I have a very good female friend that I used to work with. She used to say: "I am NOT an African American. I am a black American woman." Blacks, whites, browns, reds and yellows with a modicum of common sence see through the sham. Now if only FOX, CNBC and CNN could see it too, but they are all too busy counting their advertisement revenues.

Years ago, in the early 60, I met Ray Charles. He was an interesting guy; we were a group of College kids in a men's chorus, most white, a few black. Ray grinned that big grin of his and said.."You know, of all of us in this room, I am the only one who is really color blind...".

Keep the hate alive. Somehow the Country must need it to keep going.

Hello? His entire staff is on the take! DeLay himself is under indictment! Not a "single thing to pin on him?" Hello?

You are one scary dude. I'm can see why you hide your face behind menus.

I showed up in Vegas despite being threatened. Strangely enough, the tough guys making threats did not. Someone even lost $500 on the deal. Not wanting my photo on the internet is quite a bit different than hiding...ask anyone who was there about how much hiding I did
.....funny, I did not see your face there.

So what exactly has Delay done....except had a bunch of unsubstantiated accusations from his political opponents? A typical liberal tactic.

No one saw your face either. Remember? You were hiding it behind your menu. Repeatedly.

DeLay abused the public trust and sold his office. Keep on defending him. It tells us more about you than even your face-hiding antics.

Is the truth so difficult for you to admit?

Everyone with the nads to come to the Pelican meet saw my face as much as they wanted.

Your tactics are as obvious in my case.....as in your characterizations of our county's leaders.

Your attempts to obfuscate the truth knows no bounds.

And I wonder if you realize how silly you looked.

fintstone 04-01-2006 08:43 PM

I didn't see you there....were you having a pajama party with G9?

Moneyguy1 04-01-2006 09:00 PM

They are ALL allegations until a jury decides otherwise....I wish you all could at least agree on that and deal with it. Some of these threads get downright puerile. I think G. Carlin used to refer to it as 'pr!ck waving".

AS far as Delay, it will be interesting to see where this all goes. But until it is resolved, all the hypothesizing in the world ain't gonna make a tinker's damn of difference.

fintstone 04-01-2006 09:02 PM

As one "prick waver" to another.....I agree.

Moneyguy1 04-01-2006 09:14 PM

fint my man....I take great pains not to be labelled.

I am, in fact, one of the great majority of citizens that think the extremists on all fronts are full of crap!!

Cheers!!

fintstone 04-01-2006 09:16 PM

Cheers!!

Um, you may want to take note that two of DeLays top three aids have already plead guilty, as has his favorite lobbyist. The third staffer (the Chief of Staff) has been implicated by the other two.

There's no need to wait for a jury when someone pleads guilty.

You can take this "balanced" stuff too far. When the Majority Leader's top three aids are crooks, that's enough evidence for me. How about you?

Moneyguy1 04-01-2006 09:20 PM

Heehee....

Rodeo:

What I may think re: Delay and what a jury or court determines may be two different things. Mine is conjecture and theirs is a legal finding. That being said..Do I PERSONALLY think Delay is guilty of something?

I think MOST of the Congresspeople are guilty of something and if they were to visit my home, I would hide the silverware.

Rodeo 04-01-2006 09:36 PM

If you are talking about giving their votes in return for campaign support, I agree. If you are talking about the criminal selling of votes and influence, I disagree. Not 1 in 100 members does that.

DeLay's office was in the latter catageory. It was (is?) a criminal enterprise.

Moneyguy1 04-01-2006 10:36 PM

Not just campaign support...

GIFTS!!! FREEBIES!!! PERKS!! TRAVEL!!

I would STILL hide the silverware!!!

It is late..I forget...Who is the guy who'se ill-gotten gains are or have been auctioned off?

Duke Cunningham. Another bastion of Republican morality.

Watch for Bob Ney (R-OH) to go down as the next Abramoff sleazeball.

The Repub majority turned the House of Reps into an an Auction House. They were selling your country.

Greed is good, right?
