Do cops get tickets, do doctors get sick?

Do body shop owners have accidents?
Well I can answere the the last question for you!
FREAKIN YES!!
Tagged some poor commuter on my way to work this morning. Changing lanes to get out from behind a bus and found a whole lane of stopped vehicles. Rear ended an '03 Suburban. It wrecked his bumper but didn't get into the body so fixing it will be a breeze. He didn't even want to involve insurance. "Just get me a bumper and I'm cool." My truck on ther other hand was not as lucky. Almost $3,000.00 in damage and a whole travel mug of hot coffee all over the interior. They should design these cup holders to handle higher "G" loads.

Glad you're OK.

I have a patient who is a CHP. Got a speeding ticket on I-5 heading to work at 80 MPH in very light traffic. Hard to believe.

The only smell tougher to get rid of than coffee or cat pee is blood.

Glad you're OK.

My Dad, a dentist, used to hate going to the dentist. Said he was considering fixing his own fillings. If you knew most dentists, you'd understand.

Could not have happened to a better vehicle. That is, those Suburbans/Tahoe/... are usually the ones doing the rear-ending --the brakes on those absolutely SUCK.

So in a twisted way, your thread makes me happy.

And yeah, at least you'll have a much easier time fixing it yourself, than dentists do.

How about a little social experiment? Take your car to a dealership to get repaired and then to 2 or 3 independant shops. Then compare the estimates.

So do you overbill bill your own insurance? (joke )

I use the same estimating software that any other shop would use (dealer or independent). If there is any difference in price from one repair facility to another it would be due to the efficiency of the estimate writer to catch every allowable expense. Do I "overbill" my own insurance company? You can bet I fight for every allowable expense that I can justify. The way I look at, I've already paid the insurance company to repair my truck. Now it's thier turn to earn it and I'll make them earn every penny I've paid in premiums.

What do you think about it?
I don't do any for anyone. For the most part I'm in favor of DRP's. In theory it streamlines the system and makes it more likely that a persons car would recieve the repairs it actually needs. But like any other system it can be abused and counter productive when viewed from the "bottom line".
Why do you ask?

On I-5!?! What was he holding up traffic? I swear every time I travel up north on I-5 I'm doing 80 in the right hand lane and being pasted by rusty old pickup trucks and mini vans.

Trying real hard not to hijack here...

Tuesday morning 4AM left Redondo on the Gold Wing. Was sitting eating breakfast at 0745 at Hard Rock in Vegas. Went to DMV on Flamingo. Got in line to get a place in line at 0845. Hour later, got a tickee to now wait in official line. Two hours go by. Processed two titles and renewals. Left there $474 poorer at noon. Got a call about my brother needing help in Granite Bay, near Sacramento. Thru Barstow at 1345. Hiway 58 to Bakersfield, across high desert and Tehatchapi Pass. Left Bakerfield north on US99 at 1530. Arrived Sacramento at 1930. Dealt with that. Left Sac at 2200. Checked into the Marriott Walnut Creek at 0030.

1174 miles that day.

Left there yesterday at 1400. I-680 to I-580 to I-5. Arrived hangar in Van Nuys at 1830.

426 miles yesterday.

Once on the I-5, with a warm tailwind, was between 95 and 105 the entire way. Was constantly being passed by minivans full (more than 8 people) of immigrants heading for the southern border, and soccer moms in Hyndais and Kias.

Saw a grand total of 3 CHP's yesterday. All in the Dennys' Parking lot at Harris Ranch. Went in and bought their lunch.

Had a great 2 day ride.

If a CHP got a ticket for doing 80 on I-5, he was cited for obstructing traffic.

My best friend's dad was a NJ State Trooper. He told me that his dad once got caught going so fast in a western state that a local police officer pulled him over, took one look at the Trooper's badge and gave him a ticket adding, "You should know better."

We never found out how fast he was going but I have to believe it was somewhere north of "obscene".

Funny story; My father was an Oakland, CA police officer for 30 years. in 1965 the police depatment got a new fleet of Dodge cruisers that had (I think) the 440 magnum motor. My dad and his friend, both on duty in police cars were driving really, really fast on an empty Hwy (580) at sunrise. After they exited, a CHP officer pulled up and told my father he was going to get a ticket. My father told him that if he wrote the ticket, he would arrest the CHP. The CHP wrote the ticket. My father then arrested him (interfering with the lawful duties of a police officer). After two tense profanity filled hours at the downtown Oakland police station, the ticket is rescinded and the CHP is released.

My wife is doctor. Yes, she gets sick.

Most doctors health is terrible. They work like pigs, and don't take care of themselves. You wouldn't believe how many of them smoke!
