Interesting trivia - in (one version of) that song he refers to the harbor freeway that I drive to and from work every day.

Even my wildest guess would have been lower than that...

CAR & DRIVER released CD with their "ten best" issue some years back. "CAR & DRIVER Gratest car songs" The list:

No Particular Place to Go- Chuck Berry
On The Road Again- Canned Heat
Highway 49- Howlin' Wolf
Rocket 88- Jackie Brentson & his Delta Cats
Little Deuce Coupe-Beach Boys
Ballad of Thunder Road-Robert Mitchum
Hot Rod Race-Jimmy Dolan
409-Beach Boys
Little G.T.O.- Ronny & The Daytonas
Deadman's Curve- Jan & Dean
Shut Down-Beach Boys
(Get your kicks on) Route 66-Asleep At The Wheel
Drag City-Jan & Dean
and last but far from least:
Hot Rod Lincoln- Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen

Thanks for the thread guys...the CD is playing as I type.

Amen to the ACDC! Wouldn't listen to it at home but in the car, it's perfect...

Try the Reverend Horton Heat. They're psychobilly/swing/punk and focus on cars/chicks/booze/cars/drugs. Very fast. Very fun.

If you live in the middle of nowhere, driving hundreds of miles at a time alone, something wierd and mellow like Beth Orton or the Gibbons chick from Portishead can be nice, too.

I drove XC a few years back with Johnny Cash and Dylan box sets. That worked...

Yep..you're just a pup with milk teeth. Keep breathing, and you'll become a crusty old goat like me. (edit) Hell, I'm so old the only way the Johnny Bond version is in my sounds collection is on an "original" compact disc....we called 'em 45's back then. Really weird stuff. Can you imagine sticking a needle in a groove of a disc of slowly spinning vinyl, and sounds then emerge from a speaker??? A single speaker??? This is back when you'd actually "dial" a telephone.
