Barret M107

I want one. Talk about personal protection. Death at a range of 1.5 miles 2700 ft per second. I may have to move out of California....

Dave

EDIT: And yes, I know it is spelled 'Barrett'.

I don't think you'd have much rabbit left. You guys watching Discovery last night too?

Yeah, I was. Very interesting.
I noticed a couple of things/mistakes:

1. When he was comparing the size of the .223, .308 and .50BMG he said that the .308 was used in the AK-47. (It's not. The AK-47 cartridge is similar in overall size to our .223. I think the US uses the .308 for sniping and the M14.)

2. When comparing the rate of fire of the semiauto Barrett to the bolt action sniping rifle they said that reloading the bolt rifle can take up to 20 seconds.

Actually, no. AK-47 is chambered for 7.62 x 39mm
7.62mm=.308
Actual case is shorter, but fatter....
edit additional info:
.308 Winchester energy is slightly less tham 30-06
7.62x39 slightly less than 30-30

.308Win similar to .308 NATO, with slightly different headspacing specs. 308 Win can be loaded to higher pressures than NATO.

Yeah I was watching the Stealth Weapons program.

I think the rabbit would become rabbit nuggets.

Might as well get the actual figures in here.

Caliber Muzzle_Energy
7.62x39 1552
.223 1260
.308 win 2648

Obviously it depends a bit on load.

You guys are way out of my league. I used to target shoot rifles. I have a couple of qualifications, but never really tried for them. They just happened. I really wanted to get into loading when I was younger, but things change. When I see something like the Barrett, I just want to go out and shot some lonnnggg range targets. Seems like a blast!

Anyway, that said, I still have a few hundred rounds tucked away.

Dace

I wish they could have shot with the military exploding rounds, now that would have been cool.

We have them in swedish military. Same as above but semi-automatic. They are cool but not as usable in real world as you might think.

They are heavy and altough long-ranged, bullet trajectory is somewhat hard to predict. With other words, usable range isn't that great as you would expect.

Good for destroying equipment though. Not soo good for shooting enemy soldiers. It has quite a recoil. Sub-calibre ammo isn't used. Armor piercing and fire-ammo is.

We use whort and long version. Long is used by ingeneering troups and short one is hauled by "hunter"-troops.
