So What is the Question on Illegals Again?
Maybe I slept through this but I am still unsure as to what all the fuss is about with these illegals.
Do they just want to become instant citizens? Do they want benefits? More pay? Do they want to come and go freely across the boarder? They want relaxed laws? Holy *****!!! How much more relaxed to they want? When was the last time INS or ICE came busting down a door at the local chicken plant? What do they want? And more importantly, what gives them the right to think they deserve anything? Just because they work here ILLEGALLY they feel entitled? They are breaking the law and so are the temporary employment houses that hire them or the companies that do so as well. Seriously, I really don't get it. Does anyone else find this whole thing absurd?

What they want is your Land and its wealth.
And why not? They've been allowed to assume that no one will stop them.

Re: So What is the Question on Illegals Again?
I was asking the same a while back. What I found is, it's a pig-pile protest. (all kinds of "causes") Some are reasonable, and hope a more reasonable process for applying. Others, at the other end of the spectrum, want Calf, to Texas to be a new mexican provence. Then all those inbetween. . .they want. ". . . uh . . .what do ya got, that I can get just by protesting? --whatever it is being protested."

To me, the issue is not if we should have millions of illegal aliens in the US. I think the answer to that is "no".
The issue is should we have millions of guest workers, admitted under legal permits, doing work that needs doing, having an appropriate amount of taxes withheld. To me, the answer to that is "yes". The current system where America's businesses willingly hire Mexican nationals, America's consumers happily enjoy the benefits of low-cost labor, America's INS scrambles to arrest them while America's IRS/SSA eagerly collect their taxes and even issue them taxpayer ID numbers, and America's politicians use them as hot-button issues to score votes, is just dumb.

The problem that I have is that we're attracting people at the low end of the scale, who don't pay anywhere near enough taxes to make up for the social services mostly medical that they take out of the system. Los Angeles County last year paid out $300 million for healthcare for undocumented (read Illegal aliens) according to a study done by the County itself. Whom do you think pays for that? Answer, ME the middle class worker/taxpayer. The illegals collect $10/hour, pay no SSI or income taxes (I don't care what the press says, they get paid in cash). Something like 1/3 of the kids in the LA Unified School District are "Anchor Babies" of illegals (born in the USA). At $6,200/year/student just whom do you think is paying for those kids education; the parents who earn $10/hour or maybe $15-20K per year, I sincerely doubt it. Lots of people say you'll be paying $5 for a head of lettuce without illegals (excuse me "Undocumented) aliens. That's BS the supermarket cost of a head of lettuce is about 15% of the farmers price, the rest is transportation and marketing costs. Even if it were $5/head, I think I'd still be ahead on tax savings. Mark my words, if we have general amnesty, your taxes will be going up to pay for the education and medical care of these people who come here with low skills and low education. If you think they're such a positive benefit to a community, how about if 100,000 more move to Portland and do low skilled work and see how much they add to the positive side of the City's balance sheet?

If one wants to stop illegal immigration, prosecute those businesses that hire them. If you stop the demand the supply will dry up.

Some courageous politician should challenge Canada and Mexico to come up with a single immigration policy for all of North America.
Let Canada and Mexico hammer out all the details. We'll adopt all the immigration rules of our neighbors. Citizenship for people born in Canada? Good luck! Mexico offering free healthcare and housing to Nicaraguans? Ha! ANY complaints about our policy from south of the border is duplicitous and absurd. It's odd to see our immigrants waving the mexican flag. That flag represents a nation teeming with natural resources; minerals, timber, oil, agriculture and tourism. Yet the mexican government whose standard they bear will not allow them access to the riches that are the mexican peoples birthright. Instead, corruption and political oppression ensure generations of poverty and despair. Wave the mexican flag? They should wipe their asses with it.

But you know what? The press didn't address those issues either. Moses mentions the word "duplicitous." The word echoes tremendously with the news coverage. Related: I never caught what Fox had to say about the protests.

The illegal trickle that nobody payed much attention to has become a flood that is devouring a county that took so much to build.
I'm on the front lines trying to survive in a construction related business. I'm inclined to send out an SOS to my fellow Americans. It's that bad. |

An interesting side note: I was listening to Christian talk radio yesterday on the way home from work and several legal immigrants called in to complain that what a slap in the face it would be to them after spending all the time and money to become legal citizens to open the doors and allow the illegals full benefits.
