Many alternative reasons for Goss' resignation.

We know the CIA's stature/role became much diminished under Goss. Intelligence Czar Negroponte took over the CIA Director's position in intelligence briefings, ear of the President, etc.

Goss may not have been popular within the CIA. His mission was to enforce the White House's control over the agency, he put political operatives (ex-Congressional staffers, etc) in the top spots, experienced CIA people have been quitting.

He may have found the job too hard. In 2005 he was quoted as complaining about the workload.

Negroponte may have ultimately pushed Goss out. Notice the leading candidate for new CIA Director is one of Negroponte's top deputies.

Does anyone have a link to the press conference video clip where GW states something to the effect that capturing Osama is discussed with the CIA chief daily. Porter is standing in the background, and his involuntary facial expression/reaction to Bush's statement is simply priceless. Yeah, I'm cynical of 'almost all' politicians, and tend to think that if their lips are moving, they're probably spinning/lying, etc.

You mind readers crack me up. Were you one of the butterfly ballot counters for Gore?...I heard he hired them from the Psychic Friends Network.

This is most likely the case; however, rumors persist. Probably BS, but who knows? This town (DC) is wacky.

Nope, I've pretty much been a staunch Republican all my life.... up until the past few years. The "lessor of the two evils" as it were... but my 'bs meter' has pretty much been pegged to the far right during the current administration. Mul, my parent's are so conservative, they make even you seem like a raving liberal (they've never voted for a Dem. EVER), but just last week, even my mom commented that although GWB "means well", I (who have been opposed against this Iraq fiasco from the git go), have been 'right' in hindsight. Have you by chance seen the video clip that I'm referring to? I think it speaks volumes...you don't have to be a 'mind reader' to judge someone's 'unscripted' reaction IMO.

I think this shows how out of touch with reality the Bush'ists are, and have been all along.

I just can't understand how you know what Porter Goss was thinking. From all accounts Bush is on top of the terrorism issue, in fact it occupies a majority of his Presidency. Bush doesn't drink, doesn't use drugs and doesn't chase skirts on company time. From all I have heard and read, Bush listens to the experts and meets with them frequently...For you to suggest otherwise just seems like a stretch only a liberal would make.

I have NO idea what Porter Goss was thinking (I can only interpret his 'unscripted' reaction to GWB's statement.... you should draw you own conclusions from the video clip I referred to). If it makes you feel better to label me a 'liberal', feel free, but I'm a very independent thinker (with a more conservative background than you could ever imagine), who firmly believes that despite all of GWB's 'good intentions' that this administration has taken this country in the wrong direction. I respect your viewpoint (but disagree), and I'll have mine....carry on

Really?...You do realize Bush has called for social security reform and shrinking the size of government (cannot get traction because the media is against him)? You realize Bush turned around a possibly very bad recession and currently presides over one of the strongest economies in our history? You do realize that the unintended results of the Iraqi invasion, a centralized killing field for terrorists, could not have turned out better?

I don't see your gripe, other than caving to Democrats on the budget and caving to Democrats on illegal immigration.

Facts is facts. I don't care how uncomfortable they make your misconceived conclusions. You have been duped. Realizing this is half your battle.

alas

SS reform is not high on my agenda (I'll take care of myself thank you... despite ALL I've paid over the past 25 years). I've got no qualms with the economy (I seem to do fine regardless of the political party in power). If you replace 'centralized killing field' with 'incubator' and get rid of 'not', then I'll agree with you last statement. As I stated earlier, you have your view, I have mine... carry on

Oooohhh, I feel so much better. BTW, federal gov't had grown by leaps and bounds since B2 and the Repubs have been in charge. Maybe you don't see it on the leftist coast, but it's hard to miss out here.

One of the biggest neo-socialist gripes is the fact that the war on terrorism is taking away from social programs...It is no secret that the Democrats want more, not less, spending.

I liked the spit gov't (one part in the WH, other in one or both houses of Congress) as this was usually a recipe for lower levels of gov't spending. When the libs and neo-cons have it all, it's usually a run on the bank.

But this is all OT...whassup with Porter Goss? Was he part of the lusty nights at the Watergate? Or was it just his buddy (and appointee) Foggo?

It's such a hoot watching Mul at full left-wing, liberal, pinko, commie, socialist, democrat, traitorous, sedititious, and bush-is-nothing-other-then-god froth.
