A couple of my clients have those. Guess they make good second wives and are breeders.

The type of sites you found are sometimes created by web promotion companies to increase the number of links to the real site -- hence moving the real site up in search engine rankings.

Okay, that makes sense.

However is it the wacky 2017 site or the Drivewerks site which is benefiting from the bump in this case?

Kach, also do a Start-Run, type in "msconfig", and look at the startup tab. This is a list of programs(processes) that start with your computer. Don't uncheck any(!!!) unless you're absolutely sure they are not used by essential progs. Stuff like Quicktime and Real Player schedulers don't need to be running all the time though.
I think Blackviper.com or others has a process library of what each does.

Use the Firefox browser because most s*%t is written for IE. Turn off outlook express and java scripting unless they are needed, empty the C-Windows-Temp folder often, clean the internet cache after, make cookies session-only, and re-start the browser after filling in important forms.
Also get a seperate "coolweb" remover from download.com or tucows.com. and reclaim your computer.

If it's a choice between paranoid and unaware, I'll take the first.

Not directly related, but interesting...

It looks like Pelican is popular enough to warrant typosquatting.

For those that may forget a period after the www:
http://wwwpelicanparts.com/

This points to a link farm that earns revenue from referral.

The gator program is nothing but bad news as well.

If you have to download and install freeware, shareware, etc, get a second PC that is considered the sacrifical lamb for those type of apps. Don't load any personal info on it and re-image often.

A friend did this for his kids. They wouldn't stop downloading and installing apps.

Ha!

Having such a common name finally pays off - it's like hiding in plain sight!

Googling "mjohnson" or "michael johnson". Ha! There's so many of us, we're taking over the world!

You think that's producing an impressive number of results? Try searching on "Big Johnson."
