"Vintage" hinge, neat old decoration

My father just gave me this old hinge from a local hospital that was built around a mansion from 1900. The mansion had a stable and these hinges were on the stable doors. When the property was being dismantled, the security guys were given some of the hardware and my father got several of these old brass hinges. The hinge is made of brass and is 13lbs and 30" long. The family that originally owned the mansion and that donated the property for the hospital made their fortune in shipbuilding in the late 1800's and early 1900's, so I believe this hinge was probably made for a ship and they repurposed it for a stable door. I have seen these type of strap hinges on barns before but they were alyays made from iron, not brass. Anyway, I'm going to hang the hinge on the wall as it makes a great conversation piece. Anyone seen one of these before?

Dunno, none of those look as nice as the first one.

Thanks for the link. I've seen the cast iron strap hinges, but I have never seen any that are solid brass. I'm thinking these were originally for a ship.

Great find!
I've seen similar iron hinges used as coathooks.

I'd also assume it was for a ship...given where it came from and that brass is more corrosion resistant than iron.

Now I have to find a good, secure way to hang the hinge on the wall as a decoration. That sucker would cause some damage if it fell!

I love older hardware - so much better/nicer than the generic WalMart throwaway crap made today. . .

Nice find!
