They had a warrant? They announced themselves via shouting ? They waited 3-5 seconds after shouting?

No no slippery slope IMHO.

I wouldn't mind seeing much more severe penalties when police do that and get it wrong.

Making that kind of entry standard procedure would be very troubling. But under certain circumstances--a drug house for example--it's pretty ridiculous to say they have to hang around outside and wait to be let in.

So, like everything else, you need proper oversight from judges (granting warrants) and the chain of command to use appropriate methods in appropriate circumstances.

Cue the blood bath....

You know damn well the cops are going to come crashing into some methlab unanounced, and the occupants are going to quite understandably open up with an AK.

Repeal all drug laws and most of this becomes moot.

I was asking in reference to the new AZ law......

Would hearing impairment make a valid defense for firing on someone kicking in your door?

Happened here once in AZ: couple sleeping in bed, crew of three barges into their house claiming they're bounty hunters...guy wakes up, pulls gun, gets plugged.

So-called "bounty hunters" were just a trio of crooks.

I challenge you on this. If there is no penalty for the LEO (except the _defendant_ goes free), then you will not change the behavior of the LEO.

I would prefer to let any evidence be presented that has been collected. After all, it is "truth". But, then that same evidence will be used to convict the LEO for breaking the law.

How many LEOs will collect illegal evidence if it means they will go to jail themselves?

Set the measurements to drive the right behavior.
