By contrast, I could not take my eyes off Stanley Clarke. He had to leave the stage in order for the audience to notice any other musicians.

Just remembered. I watched a recent Duran Duran show at Royal Albert Hall. They were super! I was blown away. They were every bit as tight as Rush or Yes. I will definitely catch them if they come around here.

The worst by far: Sly and the Family Stone @ the UPS Fieldhouse.

BTO started off and was rocking the place, they got done with their set and after a 90 minute (drug?) delay Sly finally took the stage, sang 1 1/2 songs, barfed, fell down and was carried off the stage....end of set.

BTO came back on and played another hour to save the day.

The best: Skynard, Seattle Coliseum just before the....well you know.

Best ...Billy Joel and The Outfield. Both genuinely sound like their albums, no gimmicks.

America put me to sleep.
Went to see Blues Traveler sick as a dog with a fever. Could not stand still just had to dance. So much energy. Left feeling great. One of the best.

Pink Floyd was my best concert. Had to see them twice. Got Pulse?

Best: Paul McCartney, arrowhead pond, 11/2005

2nd Best: Ventures, Golden bear (huntington beach) 1986 man that guy could play. I was 5 feet from the stage.

3rd best: GoGo's, Irvine meadows (around 1982) danced the whole time.

Honorable mention: Dan Fogleburg, the greek ampitheatre. Pleasantly surprised, didn't expect much but really enjoyed myself and knew all the words to every song. Great presentation.

Worst: Ramones, Hollyweird palladium, around 1985. They played about 20 songs and they all sounded exactly the same. I knew all of their work but could not differentiate one song from the next because the music and sounds systerm was soooo bad.

The Best - Lynard Skynard warming up the audience for Marshall Tucker at Chico State in '74. Nobody knew who they were before, but we sure did after!

Second goes to J. Geils band - Sacramento in '75.

Worst was Chuck Berry touring in the early '90s - real sad.

Hmm...can't narrow it down to a single worst/best.

The Who in '80 were quite bad. And I was on acid. And they still were bad. In contrast I saw them in '82 and they totally rocked.

Saw Black Sabbath in '78 (I think). They were terrible. Tony Iomi couldn't keep his guitars in tune. Van Halen opened and they were ok but awash in terrible sound.

There are other ones but I've likely blocked them out.

High points are easy.

Jeff Beck in '80. Sat front row center, and he was perfect. Wanted to burn all my instruments after seeing him.

Rolling Stones in '82. J. Geils opened and kicked major arse. I was thinking that the Stones had just gotten blown off the stage. Then the lads came out and hammered up with Street Fighting Man. They're the Stones. End of story.

Steely Dan in '03 Universal Amphitheater. I've seen them 4 different tours, and twice on the '03 tour, but this show was just sick. I literally cried twice during the concert, they were that good.

There are some other great moments...Marcus Miller's encore last year, watching Billy Cobham and Jack Bruce exchange riffs back in '80. Seeing the Outlaws play Green Grass and High Tides at earsplitting volume from the 3rd row on the floor. Being mesmerized by the Police during the Synchronicity tour. Watching Chrissy Hynde haul off and kick some arshole in the face who had been grabbing at her pantleg all night from the edge of the stage. That show rocked (their first tour).

Kevin, I forgot about Chuck! Saw him in the mid '80s and he was OK. Saw him in (2002?) in Michigan and he was horrific. Only good thing from that concert was the drummer (who plays with Nugent) and the bassist (my brother in law).

+2 for Bruce and the E-Street Band, they were the best performance I have seen.

The best time at a show was Natalie Merchant and the 10,000 Maniacs, the tour before they split up. It was summer, I was 20, on the lawn at the Mann Music Center in Philly.

The worst? Phish, the same summer at the same place.

Another vote for J. Geils... my brother turned me onto them before they were popular and they put on a great show and were easy to get tickets for.

Too bad they got big their music went in the toilet.

Worst - ZZ - Too much poofy, too goofy and a very short set, WAY too much electronic stuff /music in the background. Actually the Black Crowes opened up and stole the show!
Little Feat is my favorite band ever. I heard them at the LA NAMM show about years ago and they were phenomenal. If you like them, you might also like the Dixie Dregs.

Hmmm...best is a tie: Queensryche/Def Leppard Wheeling Civic center in 87 and Elton John PGH Civic Arena in 89..I was really surprsied as the tickets were given to me(5th row on the floor), but that guy put on a hell of a show.

Worst: Skid Row sans Bach in 2000 at bannana Joe's in PIT. I only went because my buddies' band was the opening act--the funniest part was 1. They didn't announce that Bach was no longer with the band in any of the advertising--you should have seen the look on people's faces--too funny AND 2 their tour bus broke down en route, so they didn't take the stage untill 11:30 which forced my buddies band to play a 2-hr set--and they were more of a Steely Dan/Neil Young/Allman type band. It was freakin' nuts.

oh, I just remebered a concert that was so bad I had blocked it from memory.
A couple of years ago after the NAMM convention my wife and I went to the Arrowhead pond to see Elton John.
Turns out that we paid $150 for a celebrity Kereoke (sp) event.
One ofter another, famous and semi-famous people came out and sang their favorite Elton john song with elton's band backing them up. IT SUCKED ROYAL! Brian Wilson tried to sing a song but couldn't remember the words, that guy is a potato.
Eventually after about 3 hours of my wife asking "who is that?" Elton came on stage and sang 3 or 4 songs and left. No encore, he was gone.
I felt ripped off and swore that man will never see another penny of my money.
