Hey, I was Jeff once....I was wrong. We all grow.

I have two boys 2-1/2 and 10 months. They are amazing and give me purpose......the kind of purpose I didn't know existed before.

I don't mean he can't go through life with his mindset and be happy, he can. It will just be a different kind of happy and that's cool too.

No of course. But none of the kid having folks (at least on the board) are telling him how unhappy he is without them. If it ain't for you, and you know it and act accordingly...more power to you.

My son is 15 months. To watch him grow is increadibly exciting. Every day is like an adventure for him and for me watching him take it all in.

One two year old, and another on the way! He's more fun (and more work) than I could possibly have imagined.

Jealous?

I hardly think I was "*****ting on the concept of having kids". Someone asked a question, I answered it - in a good-natured and honest way I thought.

Sheesh. Someone sounds awfully insecure/uptight tonight. Go for a walk or something and lighten up already. Lendaddy gets it - to each their own. Some people get real enjoyment and happiness out of it and more power to 'em. I'm happy for them - it just ain't my thang.

Geez man, is there ANY way I could have responded to the original post that would have been acceptable?

There are many people who think this. And as many who'd rather adopt than have their own kids. It's quite a different philosophy, but hey, it's their body...and progeny, or lack there of.

8+ months ago I was dreading the life changes that would occur when our son was born. The loss of "me" time, the rat-race of baby care, the psycho-mom factor, the insane grandparents, dirty diapers, etc.

Now I can't even imagine my life without him in it. How can you resist a mug like this???

Thanks for your replies, guys. Very nice with all the pics ! Turning into a real family album.

Jeff,

Even though all my kids are the fulfillment of MY life - I can´t deny the fact that I sometimes think I went overboard. Like a rank stud trying to prove something. It does happen that I envy the life of people without them. But just for a minute or two.

Frankly, I think you perhaps have found a groovy strategy. You have set up a social and financially comfortable life - with lots of time to live The Legend. Some would argue you are in a perfect timing for kids. As opposed to someone like me who went ahead multiplying too much too soon according to some people.

Still remember my wife telling me she was pregnant. I was washing the 911 and had to sit down because I got dizzy. Scared to death for nine months...Sarah is 2.5 now and my life will never be the same. Love her unlike anything else I have ever experienced. It is one of those things you can't understand unless you have kids.

No, my point was that you bring it up A LOT. Am I jealous I can't spend all my money on myself and my toys? Sure, sometimes. But I don't post all the time about those that do.

No children; no interest in having any (which could have been an option aside from "no children so far", which implies that everybody's going to want/have them). I'd go further than Jeff, in fact, but someone would bytch about urine in their cornflakes.

Two observations: "everybody thinks they're an above average driver;" "everybody thinks they have a sense of humor, but then they don't, all."

I have three - my oldest daughter is in her fourth year of medical school, my middle daughter is in her second year of law school and my son is in his second year of engineering.

I've always said that children are your best entertainment value (when they are good!). Whenever they do something extraordinary, the feeling is better than if I'd done it myself.

Conversly, if they are hurting or if they get in trouble, the pain is deep. My daughter basically got dumped by her boyfriend the other day and the sobbing and weeping on the phone was heartbreaking.

So I guess my point is, the joys are amplified by orders of magnitude, but the sorrows keep pace. Fortunately, I have the greatest children ever conceived (that opinion may be biased).

+1, Jeff.
I don't like them, and don't want them.

For those of you feeling cornered by the rest of us (parents) for choosing not to have kids for what ever reasons : There is nothing sacred, extra generous, super emphatic or particularly talented about choosing to have kids. Its rather an egoistic decision to begin with. For us who did its a lot of joy but there is also a price to pay.

I believe, deep down, the inducement for wanting to reproduce is part genetic (drive to multiply), part a semi conscious fear of death.

And no, I do not believe its because God told us to multiply.

BTW, I see the poll disclose that I am a minority member..

I agree with your "inducement" characterization. In many cases (though certainly for none of the Pelicans) I'd add narcissism. Euphemize it to "making oneself immortal" in some small way.

I view having kids as a more "selfish" than "selfless" thing; and I'm a pretty selfish person. Ask anyone.
