Look What My Porsche Dealership Has For Sale & The Freakin' Price!! Pics

I stopped at my newly opened Porsche dealership on my way home from work on Friday...they had some beautiful cars for sale...this one caught my eye, its a 1989 Genuine Factory Converted Slant Nose.

The car has a little over 25K on the clock and the usual drips of oil under the car. The salesman tried to tell me that only these Slant Nose cars had 400hp...I laughed pretty good and politely corrected him! Anyway they want $80K for it!!! I just about choked and they are not really negotiable in price!

To give you some perspective they have a 993 Twin turbo with 21K miles for the same price and a 996 Twin Turbo with 11K miles for $5k less!!!

Also of interest they also have a beautiful white 1988 Turbo wide body 3.2SC and a neat 1994 Speedster.

Is the 993 turbo a manual? Can you take a pic? Where you located?

Nice slant BTW...

Cool? Extremely - yes. Overpriced? Yep. That's dealerships for you. A few months ago my local dealer was trying to convince me that $40k for a 2003 Boxster-S with about 50,000 miles was a good deal.

It's cool to see a new dealership that carries some desirable cars from the past, most of them only have interest in new or certified cars. Of course, in typical dealer fashion, they're way too expensive.

If they advertised that 1989 930 for what its really worth, it would simply show how expensive new Porsches are. Better to have it priced at $80K to make buyers of new Porsches feel good, then get rid of it quietly, at auction or something?

Perhaps they would give you $40,000 on trade for your '89 911 Carrera Coupe?

I have never set foot in or on a Porsche dealership and don't plan to.
This is a good reason why.
IMO, slants are worth less than a stock 911.

I despise the look, but you have to respect the rarity of a factory one. Perfect car for anyone who enjoyed the 80's. Miami Vice is now a movie, maybe they see it as an investment op?

Yasin,
Is that the new dealership in the Springs..? I have yet to get down there to look but have heard that they are looking to get "interesting" cars in their used assortment.

Interestingly enough, the new MV movie is not an '80s retro deal. The director, Michael Mann, (one of my absolute favorite film makers ever), decided against retaining the same type of stylized feel of the TV show in the film.

So basically the film, (which I have not seen yet), will do nothing to revive any type of '80s fad even if it does well at the box office.

Also, the slant nose 930 at the dealer is definitely a collector's item if it is what it appears; ie. highly original and fully documented. It appears to be bone stock, which would be necessary for full collector value. Funny thing is that collectible does not automatically mean highly valuable. There is a tiny market for that car, just as there was when it was new, for high value you need more people and $$ chasing the item than there are supply of said item. Low-mileage slant nose 911s are the exact opposite of this equation.

IIRC, checking off the box for the slant nose option (back in 1989) added about $25K or $30K for the car. And through the Special Wishes program, supposedly the factory could bump up the BHP to something in the 350-400 range. Not sure if that was allowed in the US, though.

And, in its favor, that car's an '89, with the G50 box. It's got low, collector-type miles (with the attendant drips).

So I can see some creative salesman saying: Hey, the market asking price for a regular '89 930 with such low miles is about $40-60K (there are always 1 or 2 such pristine cars listed in the PCA classifieds for about $60K--though, admittedly, they seem to be listed as such for indefinite periods of time). Why not tack on that extra $20K or so for the slant nose option?

Unfortunately, that price is not really rooted in the reality of the market today, is it?

I'm with sammy: I prefer the classic 911 nose. I must admit that I used to think slant noses were the bee's knees. But it's not 1985 anymore, and I'm no longer in jr high.

Of course, all they need is one sucker to buy it...

Agree w/ your post completely, only problem is that there is more than one of these cars for that (1) sucker to choose from.

Actually this just reminded me - anyone else here remember the guy who was gas axing a 911 to make a slant like this one? I think it was yellow, he was smoking a cigar in every picture and seemed to be working in a junk yard.
