How to Stop a War
Very astute group here to be sure, but just to go over the basics.. Countries, religions, and groups don't start wars, they fight them. People start wars for gain. Someone decides what they want, forms a plan, and incites the masses to start smiting. Tell them a little truth, a few lies, a pinch of exaggeration, and an ounce of out of context quotes. This will prove that God and Country want them to kill and die for said God and Country. Don't argue with me for a minute here.
![]() It might be folks from Syria, Iran, or Halliburton who told Hezbollah to start it, but that's not really important now. Can anybody come it with an idea on how to stop this war? Submit your ideas, we'll do a poll and send Washington the results. I'm friggin' stumped. Edit 2: OK, more editing. I am referring to the recent unpleasantness between Israel (or Palestine, or the Jews with help from the US if you like) and Lebanon (or Hezbollah with help from Syria and Iran, if you like). This, IMHO, is a serious threat to the world.

I read somewhere that "there are no war-like people, only war-like leaders"
the only certainty is that war feeds the rich while it buries the poor. |

Stop the war, or stop the evil leaders from starting one?
People with productive jobs, and who are enjoying the benefits of those jobs--supporting their family, etc--don't have time to go to war. |

OK, original post edited. I meant, 'Can we stop this one?'

I'm really not looking for an argument, but will accomodate. Guess I made an erroneous assumption with the 'very astute group' stuff. ![]()

we can stop it. however, actions like invading Iraq only exacerbates the situation.... that's not the way. that's only "guessing" at a solution. |

You may not have been looking for an argument, but an argument you will have. Rhetoric by post #2, pretty quick even by OT standards.

A 3rd party that they would have to unite to defeat. Possibly, or preferrably from Mars.

Ah, now that you've insulted me, I can answer. The only time in all of recorded history when peace was the order of the day in that area, was when you had "Pax Romanica" (the peace of Rome). Only when a Superpower steps in to squash any "friction" from the cohabitants, is there any relative peace. The Superpower must be brutal in putting down any trouble. No quarter type of brutality. Then it works pretty good. Care to name any SuperPower capable of that type of action today? We need to try a completely different approach, IMO.

onramp, puppy, sorry to offend. It really wasn't the intent. I just cannot accept that the escalation of this war is inevitable, at least not yet. I concede that Iraq is and was a mistake.
Pax Romanica is an option, counselor, but Jim, the thought of all people of the world uniting to defeat the common alien foe sounds more like an idea for a movie. ![]() Option 1. Pax Romanica. We become Rambo of the world. Any others?

Well to honestly answer your question, I think the people need more information and in this world this information shouldn't be too hard to come across. First, who stands to gain from this war or this fighting whether Israel, Palestine, Lebanon etc. The US has their hands in this, so does Britain so who is going to profit, big business and then once we know this, we need a more lucrative opportunity for them or we need a grand distraction (i.e. Mars as some of you mentioned). I don't think people will go for the greater good line.
The movie "Men In Black" had a great quote "A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it. " And to reach one person is possible, to reach a mass of people is a life challenge. And we in the United States (not all) are too concerned with our own individual lives to take the world's problems and try to solve them. We count on our elected officials to make the right decisions and keep us safe so we can work our 8 to 5 job, drive our Porsche and go to sleep at night.

THe best way to end a war if for one side to bury the other. In fact thats the ONLY way to end a war.
Again I cite as proof, the end of WWII. |
