Let's talk printers. Color Laserjet anyone?

I just threw the 3rd inkjet printer in just about so many years into the trash over the weekend. I've had it with inkjets, from HP, Canon and Lexmark, they all suck when they start giving trouble. So I finally gave up and bought this puppy:

HP Color Laserjet 1600

For home use (5 users) it is probably an overkill, but I don't want to buy another printer again soon. My overall print costs should also reduce drastically. Any good/bad experiences with this Color Laserjet from HP?

I'm gonna try to print a few banknotes this weekend to verify the print quality - maybe I can offset the cost of the printer......

We've got a few at work here, they are good. My only complaint is that the toner for one of ours (a HP4500 IIRC) is so expensive we have to "limp" along with one cartridge bleeding on hte back of every page that comes off of it.

Maybe I should print some 8x10 glossy photos to get the ink to run out quicker...

I've had an HP Color Laserjet 2500 for a couple of years. Good printer so far. I wish I had gotten the 2500n, but they were really pricey back then, and now the price of the jetdirect is over half what I paid for the printer.

I've replaced the toners once, and since set everyone's PC's to print in grayscale. I've also replaced the drum once. Now that the PC's are set for grayscale the black is about to wear out but the other colors have tons of toner left.

I love it.

Pretty cool - we actually just got a 5550dm in our office a couple weeks ago. Very nice color, fast, quiet, etc.

It's kind of ridiculous though - we probably do 10-20 11"x17" color prints a week. It was a new person in our office trying to establish their own self-importance by showing that they can "get things done" when our color inkjet died. . . Whatever, we got a nice piece of office furniture out of the deal.

Those toners are mighty expensive though.

The toner may be expensive, but you are supposed to get 10x the number of pages out of them compared to an inkjet cartridge. Cost per page is half of the cost of an inkjet.

I used a HP laser for years, loved it. Last 3 years we have been using inkjets, I hate them - expensive, slow, and always running to store for ink. Color lasers are still kind of expensive for home use, plus I want a color inkject for photos. Ideal (for me) is probably to pick up a personal mono laser (<$100 now) for routine printing and save the color inkjet for occasional. Or start using refilled/offbrand ink cartridges.

You can get color lasers for under $500. That's a pretty darn good price.

This one cost me the equivalent of $260, including sales taxes and all 4 toner cartridges.

Wow on those prices - I stand corrected - time for a color laser in the jyl household.
