Scorpions in Cali??

So I drive into our garage today and notice something unusual on ground where my wife parks. Seems she ran this beastie over pulling out today...WTF? I have never seen a scorpion in SoCal before so is this the real deal or a well done poser? If real how worried should I be about more (old cockroach saying where if you see one you have thousands) living nearby and how venomous are these things?

No more kids shoes left in the garage at night...

Here is a link to a database listing scorpions in California. And yes, we do have scorpions in California

You bet, we used to catch them in one of the coastal canyons in the suburbs (now) of San Diego for fun and games. Not deadly, just a bit annoying.

that specimen you have is the most feared type KNOWN to MAN! one sting and youll be howling like a wolf! flashes of red hot pain at site of sting, then you will blaaber incoherently, start foaming at the mouth, your pecker will fall off, your eyes will cross, and the next thing you know...................YOUR DEAD!

i'll bet you have a very high population of ...............CRICKETS! and only people with dirty houses have CRICKETS! LOL! crickets are their numero uno foodsource. no crickets = no scorpions. they cannot be killed by any known substance known to man. well with the exception of our supersecret method............................................ ............... WD-40 and a lighter! if scorpion on concrete, flame his ass until TOAST and he will leave a beautiful rendition of his exo-skeleton just like an outline drawing! this method is not recommended for use on drywall/wooden floors etc.

truth of the matter i live with them au natural. for sh$$s and grins we take ultra-violet light out at night and collect them. why you ask? my reptilian buddy has giant terrarium full of dez creatures big and small. hey its a reason to drink beer(like we need one).

they are only DEADLY to those who are allergic(oh boy lets find out!) young infants and the elderly.

watch the beginning to sam peckinpaughs "THE WILD BUNCH". we have done this!!!! BIG FUN! take quanity (1) scorpion, perferably of the genus BARK SCORPION species and place in the middle of RED ANT PILE! and watch the fun while reliving the opening scenes to one of the greatest bloodiest westerns EVER FILMED!

now you have learned everything you ever wanted to know about scorpions! we are a wealth of knowledge on other deadly creatures and how to eradicate them from our lil piece of ground..............we call home!

One of those guys crawled up my shirt when I was kid, laying on the floor, watching tv and he stung me in the armpit. It hurt like a motherf%cker. I yelled and whined for a good 20 min. before the pain started to slow down. Catch them and put in the microwave for 20 sec.

Hi Dave!
Building my home (Escondido) 5 years ago I found two in a scrape pile that had been sitting for a month or two. Kinda surprized me, and I do leave my shoes in the garage. owwwwwwwwwweeeeeeee!!

they also can for some ungodly amount of time survive w/out food and water. it is a standard morning drill to kick my shoes or boots together before putting feetzies in.

ol dezert rat trick.....................real dezert rats have figured out that sleeping on the ground can be harmful to health sooner or later. take GI cot, place legs in 4 coffee cans full of water. this way no critters crawl up and nail you!

I always thought the little white ones were more deadly, but suffice to say it's probably a good idea to avoid 'em regardless of color or size.

Thank God I live up here in the wet, cold PNW. We have nothing here on the wet side of the Cascades that will sting you any worse than a yellow jacket. No crawly bugs, no snakes, none of that crap. Plenty of them east of the mountains in the high deserts of Eastern Washington; they can have 'em.

When I read the title of this thread, I thought it was going to be about another movie with Samuel L Jackson.

So many of the Californians are moving to Nevada and Arizona that the scorpions have no place to live, and are heading west...

Well then I'm posting warning signs on the border - "This is what happens to Scorpions in California"

Truely I'm shocked. I have lived here all my life and have never seen one of these guys here. My daughter is taking it to 2nd grade show and tell on Friday. I have been battling them to not leave their shoes by the door in the garage so at least I got a win there - no more shoes

hose your porch off and you have created water supply. water plants....again water supply. you MUST KILL ALL CRICKETS! regardless of sex creed religious beliefs color male female babies!

no crickets = no scorpions.

now if anyone knows the exact science of ridding my life and my dogs life of the ASSASSIN BUGS.............i am all ears. would really enjoy not having to smack the hell out of them with my flip flop and have BLOOD go flying everywhere. my back porch looks like a freeking blood bath every single morning(they are nocturnal).

have spoke to bug man who is a bug-ologist. he knows no poison that will kill them. have tried diatameceous earth which works very well on other bugs and flys and is cheap(diatoms which are lower than whale poop). but so far the full auto-matic class 3 flip-flop has been the only thing that works. man they are gross! they make TICKS look like a VW bug in comparison to them looking like the graf zepplien blimp!
