A Spoon Turns into a Goldmine

I used to own this painting....Ahhhh I mean Spoon...I bought it on E-bay in late 2000 for about $500 and sold it in early 2003 for about $600.... Ohhh Well... However 10Xs your money in 5 years is nothing to sneeze at...http://www.findartinfo.com/search/showitem~price~533996~name~Moss_Cove.asp The Bennet Bradbury (brother of Ray) story of how to make a market in Art is prototypical...John Moran Auction in Pasadena, CA got about 40 BB paintings consigned to them. They put 10 or so in each of their auctions and as the auctions progressed so did the prices...until then BB paintings were inexpensive...$600 would buy a 28 x36..now its about 4k or better.

I once got a girl for a dumb joke and a slice of pizza. She ended up costing me around $300,000 and still counting! I'd say she made a better investment than me!

				One that didn't get away

This is an Irving R Wiles, Peconic Bay Scallop Boat scene 10 X 14...I traded some art for this one about 6 years ago so my cost basis is fairly low. I suppose Motion wouldn't want to be bothered with this kind of stuff though, its just not enougn money for him to waste his time.

i recently bought a hammer on Ebay...for $1,000 not just any old hammer though, it was a prop from the movie Rose Red and it's been hand signed by Stephen King on the wooden handle. It has a COA from ABC auctions. hopefully it's worth more than what I paid! I love investing is stuff like that. more interesting than money in the bank!!! It's Hammer Time ! | ||

I would say beware of instant collectables...anything that needs a COA smacks of that....Find an area of collecting U like, buy a coupla books on the subject and start looking around. I agree that something collectable is more fun and interesting than money in an account..and is a good way to divisify a portfolio...
