That brings me to another point. Most of you have agreed in one thread or another, that government is really wrong pretty often.

True, I think we can all agree that the government has become overgrown and much too invasive in our lives.

Tell me, as your own government, you are self-sustaining? You do not need water, power, relations with others. Can you break whatever law you want and say to any and all intervening authorities that you have diplomatic immunity?

This is the biggest problem I see you having with your government, can you really be autonomous?

They've never figured out, but you've come closest of all by "my own government" I mean no government at all.

No government does not mean chaos, it's simply anarchy.

I prefer the higher portions of the state.

Of course. But so much SOP of how we handle government, and who handles government has to first be thrown out.

and yet you still need the gov or you would not be as comfy as you are now...

Pat made an agreement years ago with a criminal organization where as Pat would aid and assist in the commission of illegal wars and war crimes and in turn they would pay him a salary and retirement via their ongoing illegal acts and ventures. See....he doesn't need anyone:D

This thread is hilarious. We've been over the question of whether road-building, electric power generation, transmission and distribution, letter carrying, waste water treatment, etc., make more sense as a bunch of smaller profit-making companies, or whether economies of scale and owner (citizen)-controlled infrastructure makes the most sense. An intelligent discussion of these options is (or would be) interesting but I wouldn't expect Pat's input to be any more valuable than it has been thus far.

......but in reading this thread I cannot help but reflect on my friend, the left-handed redhead with the healthy.......ahem......interest in playful behavior. Her house is not hooked up to any sewer, water, phone or electric lines. She's quietly happy. Not whining. Not throwing tantrums. (She gets a little wild at times, but that's a completely different subject) Independent as a wolverine. No resemblance to our outspoken complainer here.

To be certain, I like the idea of such independence. As an ideal, it's fine. As a mainstay of society, I would predict utter chaos.

She's happy. Some folks prefer the Rat Race. I do, somewhat.

But no, I don't think there would be a problem if everyone wanted to live like her. In fact, there are some substantially-sized communities that do. They are most certainly happy. Happiest, most peaceful, most secure faces I ever see. On the one hand there is the security you can buy........and then there is the security you have when you know your neighbors and extended community will raise your barn if it falls, or bring you tools and labor if you get in a time crunch before winter sets in. These people know they will be taken care of. No question about that.

I think everyone is missing the point of this post. When some trees fell on a government constructed road Pat stopped cutting and pasting Lew Rockwell articles and with some other self governed cleared the trees off the road(probably so they could all get to the government regulated bank and cash their government welfare checks)!
Now that's independance
Steve

Ok I take back wanting Pat banned. Every group needs a token nutcase and Pat fits the bill pretty well.
