Do not install IE7 (yet).
Its giving me fits. More secure? You betcha. To the point that half the damn websites don't work, including Pelican. I think it wil be fine after a bit of massaging the security settings, but its ugly at this point.
Firefox and Opera user, please move along...nothing to see here. |

LOL! Not 10 seconds after I finished this post did the damn thing crash. Now I can't even get the security option dialog box to function. Come on Redmond.....get it together......

Microsoft, once again releasing software that just isn't ready yet. I'm sure they're thankful for unpaid beta testers like you.

Switched to Firefox three months ago and will not go back to IE. Use it only when doing anything in Microsoft's website (upgrades, security patches) and other than that it will not be used on my machines.

Firefox>I.E.
Apple>PC Linux>Windows But people can still use whatever they want. I agree - no desire to install either IE7 or Vista until they've both been out at least a year. It's like buying the "first release" of a new car model - you're the guinea pig.

I agree, IE7 is HORRIBLE. It has a huge memory footprint, locks up all the time, is kinda slow, and is too intrusive with that little bar that *****es about security settings.
RC2 fixed a lot of problems with the initial Beta release, but the things I just mentioned still apply. IE6 was awesome, IE7 is a miscarrage. I think the last time a browser sucked so badly was when I used NetScape on SunOS 5.5 or 5.6 x86. Oh yea, I can't stand the folder view it does for FTP and how you have to select Page>View FTP Site in Windows Explorer. Lame. FireFox 1.5 is kicking IEs ass.

This REALLY makes me sick because I know the inside story here. IE was basically on life support over in Redmond. When Firefox started gobbling up market share, they reassmbled the team, and kicked started devlopment. It went from like 100 to 700.

WHat's IE???
![]() I'd rather install the new Firefox 2.0 RC than IE. I have IE, but only use it when I absolutely have to.

FWIW I loaded IE7 Thursday at work as I needed to make sure our software ran OK with it (it does). No problems thus far, but some of the things they did to the UI are odd. For instance, putting the drop-down menu bar below the URL textbox...the UI now deviates from the layout of virtually every other Windows program.
I'm been using firefox about 98% of the time anyway. I only use IE for Windows Update and Outlook/Exchange Web Access, and a small handful of other sites that need ActiveX.

Been running IE7 for 4 months now (Release Candidates and Beta Version) Everything is working fine for me. Have not had any problems with the released version, beta's and RC's were a little buggy.

To deal with the pages that need IE I installed the firefox extension IE tab. Automatically loads an IE tab within firefox when I get to a microsoft site that needs it etc.
