Until a couple of days ago, gunbroker.com's forums. but they got hacked, restored, and apparently taken offline. any attempt to get something just redirects to the auction side.

Shilo Sharps message boards. Pretty special interest; black powder cartridge rifles, even further narrowed down to match shooting with them.

My favorite is www.sigforum.com. Site owner is a hard a$s. Come even close to crossing him and you're banned. Tread lightly. But he's still a good guy and it's a well done site. Glocktalk.com has super classifieds. AR15.com ain't bad either.

I just thought some of us may cross paths on other boards. The pics of that splintered rifle Jeff posted were posted on the shotgun board today so it got me thinking.

I guess you could say that family ruined me on guns. I've got no problems shooting up some bottles and cans with a BB gun, but thats my limit. When Dad tried arguing that his new SKS and 38 were for "home protection", an argument that I'll never buy, I quickly lost my interest in guns and the people who own them.

A guy I work with is a big gun advocate. Ask him why and his expression changes to mean and bitter and he'll toss out a wild scenario such as "you come home and somebody is raping your wife...". He's 30 years old, lives in a million dollar home in the most boring neighborhood on the planet here in San Jose {snore}, one of the safest cities in America.

Hunting? No problem. I could never do it, but I can understand those that do. As for the rest, Im not so sure. My uncle (Dads brother ofcourse) still believes the Russians (or the Blacks, or the Mexicans, or whatever boogy-man he's dreamt up) are going to invade Indiana and that why he keeps a safe full of M-16s and various pistols.

Call me a sheep waiting for slaughter, but the gun owners I know are some of the most scared and unstable people I ever met. I guess you could say that Im more concerned with the owners than the guns themselves. I feel the same way about pit-bulls.

An SKS isn't the best home protection gun, but it's a fun shooter and is dirt cheap and ammo is dirt cheap too. Why an aversion to guns because of that? Any gun in the house, if competent adults live there, will do far more than a phone or the police will to protect you. A .38, OTOH, is a decent home defense gun. I've got a mini arsenal and am not scared or unstable at all. In fact, most gun owners I know are just the opposite of how you describe them. Sure, there are a few whack jobs out there, but they scare me with their cars and cells phones far more than their guns. And I haven't been afraid to have cars and cell phones.
