My digital camera died, I'm so upset
An Olympus C-5500.
We had a lot of good times together. I took thousands of pictures over the last year and to months. Yes, that's all it lasted. It died while on vacation. Don't know why..airport X-rays, perhaps? When I ty to do anything with it, it freezes up, the screen goes wonky. Even popping the flash open send it into lockup, and require battery removal to reboot, and a double on/off to get it "operational" - untill it freezes up when you push a button again. I'm so pissed. Camera had a freaking aweson super-macro mode which I used a lot. Almost sub-atomic levels of closeness (these pictures are of interest to guitar players...) So close, it captured fuzz I could not see with my naked eye. And les not forget the car pictures What maybe impressed me most was how it captured red on Sunburst guitars, something I hear most cameras don't do very well. Yep..today, I lay my trusty camera to rest, to choose a new one. Thinking about the Olympus sp-320 or the Olympus sp-350, as both have a super macro mode, and both have greater Movie mode od 640x480 @ 30fps What do you think? yep. sad day today. ![]() PS: sorry for any typos and crap, on my wife's laptop and I hate typing on it. Might be in the market for a new one soon (friggin' lost mine). Looks like both those models are decent and (thankfully) have viewfinders. I don't know what it is about a lot of the new cameras not incorporating viewfinders and relying on the LCD screen only, but it pisses me off. Those things are utterly worthless in bright sunlight.

I'm currently using a Nikon Coolpix 7900 as my primary digital camera. It's the third Nikon digital I've owned, none have failed, and all three are still in service with their respective owners. The oldest is a Nikon Coolpix 990, about 4 years old, I gave the Nikon Coolpix 4300 to my wife.
Still, you're used to the Olympus controls and so forth, so you'll probably stay with them. Their reputation is good, but that camera failed much too soon. |
