used to know a guy who 'plumbed' for tower on their 747 back in the early 90's...javier barrios..he was my neighbor in miami. good guy. know him?

The name is familiar. I am sure I have flown with him but can't place the face. I got lucky and bailed out of there about ten months before Tower tanked. Big Miami contingent though.

Great pics from Reno. I was surprised that I did not see any of my buddies in the T6 class. I was going to race there when they had a shortage of 'sixes in the T6 class, but decided to wait. The next few years reaped many entrants into the T6 class, so my slug was out. Would have been really cool though. Three of my close friends race there every year. Still have not gone yet. Shame on me!

Mike,
Speaking of brown material hitting the fan, assume that you RJ drivers know about the crash yesterday in Moscow? Was just there and two American pilots, one Russian Engineer from what is in the news now. Everyone survived but are in bad shape in the hospital. Tookoff in heavy a heavy snowstorm then evidently had a fire warning and evidently lost an engine (or caged it) and it rolled on its back then back onto the ground. |
The company just started installing HUDs in the CRJ705's (900). It is the HGS4200 and has take off and landing rollout guidance. The LOCs are used for centerline guidance. Pretty cool. Apperently we are looking into getting electronic flight bags as well...I can't wait to drop the weight of the Jep's from my bag. I think they will have all company related material as well. COM, AOM etc. We'll see I guess.

We had an interesting departure the other day. Just after the gear retracted we got hit by decreasing performance windshear. We got the aural warnings and the whole bit. We weren't able to climb at all and got pretty close to the low speed cue and stick shaker before it muscled itself away under max thrust. Lots of fun at 7 am.

i always liked 20-series lear cargo work, trying to top a line, flaming one out and having to take that pants-****ting drop down to fl250 to re-light, wondering about hail shafts. that made for an interesting breakfast. remember those days, joe? it's cargo...deviate for weather?? lol.

I really respect you guys. My girlfiend shouted me a trial flight in a piper pacer as a Christmas present. OMG I was full of bravado talking about bringing some beers up and throwing bags of flower out the window etc. As soon as we got 50 meters into the air I froze and started clinging onto the seat. It felt like flying around in a biscut tin with paper wings. Then... arrgh, the instructor wanted me to steer it and work the throatle. I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I politely declinded her offer of doing a 180 degrees and bringing it down to 100 meters about the air strip. I was a bit subdude for a couple of days after that.

Reading that CVR transcript is painful.
