Innsbruck really loved our turbojet (loud) Lear, especially during the night transplant flights!
i can relate, joe. when i was based in kelp, we'd bring the old lear throttles back to flight idle around 100 miles out and never touch them again until landing for those typical 'middle of the night' return home legs. we'd just manage the airspeed until time for flaps, gear and touch down silently. the towerr and undoubtedly the folks who lived near the airport appreciated it. oh, sometimes you'd mismanage it and have to touch some power at the last second..but you heard about it from the other seat.. was that the 'fast wing' on your bird or one of the others? we had so many old lears, all with different wings, that it was hard to keep them straight at first. love seeing the pic. i did air ambo after the air cargo gigs. just a little higher on the food chain. ;)

Boeing - nobody does it better. Or even as well.

Joe -

I was based in Berlin flying out of Tegel on the 727 from '88 through '91. Best job I ever had!! Lived in Zehlendorf -- who knows, might have seen you on the Ku'damm.

svandamme 01-05-2007 02:37 PM

efhughes3 01-05-2007 03:05 PM

Just saw this thread, can I play with the big boys? This is my Challenger that I built in '01-02. I sold her a couple of months back, the cars seemed to take up more time than the plane, so I wasn't flying much.

Nice job Ed! I have a couple hours in one of those. I repaired a heavily damaged one a few years back for a customer (the dumb@ss balled it up again a couple weeks after I rebuilt it, attempting to take off out of essentially a back yard and caught the gear on a barbwire fence and totaled it!)

efhughes3 01-05-2007 03:34 PM

Geez, they are STOL's with the right wings and power, but there is a limit...

charleskieffner 01-06-2007 02:41 AM

Would love to know the story behind this one!

couple of cases of beer, and a lot of folks to lift and plant the junker plane in the tree ( probably back when the branches were less thick)

t6dpilot 01-06-2007 06:32 AM

That airplane had to be placed there for advertising purposes IMO.

Ed Hughes, nice plane. That is what I call true needle, ball, airspeed flying! I had my T6 based out of Aero Country near McKinney, TX for a couple of years when I lived/worked in Dallas. That was back in 98/99 when Aero Country had an aerobatic box right at the airport.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1168097500.jpg
