Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts???

Following on from all the religious talk, another sensitive holey issue.

It's Friday and someone has bought in the donuts, which set me thinking:

If you had to choose, assuming price and convenience of location are equal, which would you prefer?

KK if the "hot donuts now" sign is on, and I can get them off the conveyor belt before they get glazed. - Light, crispy, no overpowering sugar, just perfect that way.

Otherwise, Dunkin....

Krispy Kreme all the way. The "Hot" sign is on, the "Hot" sign is on!!

Of course, I haven't even *seen* a Dunkin Donuts in years. I thought they went out of business. :>)

Regional thang. On Long Island DD is everywhere. The KK that opened down the road closed up within a year.

Dunkin Donuts. Better coffee, better donuts (and a wider variety) that keep longer.

There used to be several DD in the area. Now there is one.
By contrast, there is one KK but you can also buy KK in every quicky mart and grocery. Of course, the best KK is at the KK shop when the "hot" light is on.

I love the texture of KK, but I love the variety at DD. So, "it depends".

Grew up with DD. But KK is so much better. You have to get them fresh, of course. Are DD donuts ever fresh?

I haven't had DD in a looong time. KK is great if you get them warm and fresh, but if they aren't warm then they are just very moderate. Around here it's Shipley's, but I think that's a very regional thing.

Best donuts I ever had was at a rally in upstate NY. The local diner has an old fashioned donut fryer filled with hot lard. Oh. My. God.

Driving up I-95 through CT, I thought the locals only food was DD. They're everywhere.

Yeah. Lard is the real deal. Almost everywhere these days uses the equivilent of Crisco. It just isn't the same.

they both suck. As does their coffee (that isn't coffee). Donuts need to be made by eastern european immigrants. Go to centra Mass and find a shop run by a polish family. *That's* a donut...

None of the donuts are good now days, and coffee is generally just brown water. 45 years ago it was great to go to the small independent donut shops and get really excellent tasting donuts which nobody even comes close to now. Plus, they only cost 80 cents a dozen. I know - the good old days.

+1 on Todd's take - their coffee is hideous. I live in a fast growing community that recently put in a shopping mall occupied by the usual suspects (Pannera, Lowes, Circut City, In-N-Out, gas, etc...). Included was a standalone K.Kreme with drive through that shutdown after 18 months even though the mall is very very busy. I wish something like Pete's coffee would move in and give some competition to Starbucks.
